Here is the third attempt to create Erzya Wikipedia, but the first 2 were rejected because of policy changing, not because any other reasons. Erzya language is the one of two official languages in Russia's Republic of Mordovia. It has about half a million native speakers. It is widely used through mordovian people and is a real living language. Sura 21:55, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Arguments in favour
edit- Erzya language is used among mostly well-educated people in central Russia region of Mordovia and in the near-by regions. This means that a rather big persentage of Erzya people have the access to computers with Internet either at home or at work and they will participate in the project. Now the goverment programme in connecting every school in Russia (even in villages) to the Internet is almost finished. This also means that there should be a rather large amount of participants. The language is not a dead one, it is widely spoken and a creation of Erzya Wikipedia will help people to develop there native language using the most modern way. Sura 22:23, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
- Support. Language is living and has official status. It uses cyrillic alphabet based on russian variant without any additional characters, so it has no problems with encodings/charsets/keyboard mappings. A.M.D.F. 12:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

editLocalisation
editThe localisation effort is at this moment at 88.31% for the required "most often used messages" for MediaWiki. A good localisation is an important benefit in helping people understand the website. GerardM 20:52, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Erzianj-jurnalist 11:54, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
(И в кодах для Википедии, и на уровне ISO тоже.)--Imz 18:19, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- GerardM сказал, цитирую "Hoi, we accept the ISO-639 codes. It is not negotionable :) it is the standard that we adhere to."[3]. A.M.D.F. 07:31, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
Since Wikipedia adheres to ISO language codes and the administrators are not overly enthusiastic about allowing the three letter abbreviation "erz" (GOST 7.75–97) as in "Erzya" (quite mnemonic one might say). I have written to SIL who is working on (ISO 639-3). Since both SIL and ISO have taken a peculiar sidestep from the Mnemonic ideal and rendered the Mordvinian literary language of Erzya as "myv". I have asked them to inform us here at Wikipedia: (i) Why Erzya has a Cryptic Code, and (ii) What it will take to change it to the more MNEMONIC "ERZ".
