This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.A committee member provided the following comment: |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |
---|
Proposal | ||
---|---|---|
Language code | izh (SIL, Glottolog) | A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ... |
Language name | Ingrian | Language name in English |
Language name | Ižoran keel | Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ... |
Language Wikidata item | Q33559 - item has currently the following values:
|
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed. |
Directionality | LTR | Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)? |
Site URL | izh.wikipedia.org | langcode.wikiproject.org |
Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | Wikipedia | "Wikipedia" in your language |
Project namespace | usually the same as the project name | |
Project talk namespace | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | yes | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) | |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |
Ingrian is a living language spoken in Russia and Estonia, with about 500 native speakers. I request to give it a chance, because Ingrian Wikipedia has some active contributers. Regards,--Tamara Ustinova 10:00, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

- Strong Support But I suggest that the name of the Wiki should be changed to Izhorian because the language that Ingrian Finns speak (Southeastern dialects of the Finnish language) is different language than Izhorian. They also are two different ethnic groups. Now there is a danger of confusion. --88195189P203P 09:15, 23 June 2016
- Strong Support I have a same opinion as the previous user. There is a chance of confusion, so the name should be changed. 109.240.24.48 (talk) 23:40, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- Support --Palmtree222 i know izhorian and i will edit this page
Arguments against
edit- Oppose I see no activity on the izh Incubator page and 500 people is nowhere near enough to make a new Wikipedia. Razorflame 14:26, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- On the second point (500 people), did you know that Livonian was approved by LangCom? It is/was in a similar situation. PiRSquared17 (talk) 14:29, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Even so, how many of the 500 native speakers of this language would actively edit said project? My guess is next to none. Razorflame 14:30, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

- Oppose, unfortunately no one still works on it. --Wolverène (talk) 05:47, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Neutral arguments
edit- Comment - While I sympathise with the Ingrian language, I am sceptical of the number of potential editors.-MacRusgail (talk) 22:55, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
