Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Northern Tujia

submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings

Default project timezone Asia/Chongqing "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Wikipedia: Tujia people, Northern Tujia language

Tujia is a minority of China, but it has 8.35 million people. Tujia has a long history, it has its own unique customs, culture, clothing, and language.

However, Tujia language is faced with crisis. Survey data show that in 2005, only 70,000 people are the native speaker of Tujia language, less than 1% of Tujia population! More and more Tujia people using Chinese in their life and can't speak Tujia Language at all.

But the situation may change. There are lots of Tujia people that have interesting in their own language, and want to study it from the Internet. We spontaneously formed the community, try to network teaching. But we found that we don't have enough articles to teach or learn. "If we have a wikipedia..." One day, a man said. So you see the request.

Tujia language is oral language without characters. So, in order to pass the language, some people invented a spelling method based Chinese Pinyin - Tujia Pinyin Method. Some school in Tujia area have already used this method in class. So we chose the method writting our Wikipedia.

We wish our Wikipedia can help our people learn more about Tujia culture, Tujia language. And, to prevent the Tujia language disappear from our life.

Wish we dream come true. Thanks.

This language is eligible. Every speaker is invited to contribute on incubator:Wp/tji. --MF-W 17:33, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Minor oppose, translatewiki:Portal:Tji told me: This language or language code is either disabled ... If no longer exported, please don't translate to this language ... --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 14:49, 28 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you take this as a reason to oppose this request? Such issues should be solved on TWN. --MF-W 02:55, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So it's now enabled, change my previous comment to Support. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 14:45, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Strong Oppose since there are only 5 pages and almost no edits since 2016 (and exactly no edits for almost a year). Besides, all Wikipedia users who can read and write Northern Tujia can also read and write Chinese. Hence, the Northern Tujia Wikipedia is too useless (and inactive).--John Smith Ri (talk) 08:28, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
