This language has been verified as eligible. The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert. If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval. |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What | Value | Example / Explanation |

Settings | ||
---|---|---|
Project name | "Wikipedia" in your language | |
Project namespace | usually the same as the project name | |
Project talk namespace | "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace) | |
Enable uploads | no | Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons. If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons. |
Optional settings | ||
Project logo | This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation). | |
Default project timezone | Continent/City | "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones) |
Additional namespaces | For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk". | |
Additional settings | Anything else that should be set | |

Arguments in favour
edit- I speak this language at a near-native level and I think this Wikipedia will be a good project. SeriCtam 17:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- I speak native language. I think it be good having a Wikipedia in Seri. Xazoj CoospojQuitlc
- A native speaker is willing to contribute to this project in the long-term hence this project has the potential to flourish like the Quechua and Nahuatl Wikipedias. Therefore the Seri language ought to be given the opportunity and priviledge to have its own language edition of Wikipedia. --Jose77 20:55, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Two active contributors and most of articles are no stubs. So why not create this wikipedia? --Ooswesthoesbes 13:10, 23 September 2007 (UTC)After studying some Seri and reviewing the Test project: I oppose. --OosWesThoesBes 15:43, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Certainly support. Pietras1988 11:23, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
- I speak this language also at a near-native level and I hope more native people join us to help creating the Seri Wikipedia. RosaCazáplc 15:26, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- A big part of the localization translations are done. SF-Language 05:12, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- My native language needs a Wikipedia. Seri is a living language in Mexico and the US. There are about 900 people in Mexico and many in the US. Powerhouse 08:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

- Support, it goes like a train. Ollein 17:21, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
- Many users willing to contribute. Deutschlehrer 14:04, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Support, hey .25% that might be the highest %age of speakers of any language that use wikipedia! and few speakers but some willing to participate is all the more reason to approve this. it may go extinct and we'll be able to preserve their worldview and perspective on well everything!!Qrc2006 17:41, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Mexican languages have been learned in Wikipedia for native speakers and no-native speakers.--Marrovi 21:07, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Arguments against
edit- According to Ethnologue there are only 800 people that speak this language.. How realistic is this proposal ? GerardM 16:14, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Only 2 people claim to be native, that's 0,25% of all natives. SF-Language 16:16, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Dead as a horse. Unfortunately, I agree with Gerard. 0,25% of all natives is a little much too much and they can't speak Spanish but are able to speak English? Further, the seri wikipedia claims that a Seri variant is spoken in the US? And it does not look like Seri, it's dictionary mess and some words are obviously made up. For example inflewentenam, the article states:
- "Seri": Inflewentenam coccebj ctám necaitom Cmique Itom jöx diijömde itóm hualtecras
- Translation: 'Inflewentenam' is (this is not Seri, but another language, I guess it's is) of the human not spook Seri language ¿jöx? two (dii, some kind of latin?) all (Jömde is not Seri, but another language, it looks like homdi, which is Tale, a constructed language based on Dutch) language ¿hualtecras? (made up, I guess it means natively)
- Normal English: ¿Inflewent people are people who do not speak Seri natively.?
- Translation: 'Inflewentenam' is (this is not Seri, but another language, I guess it's is) of the human not spook Seri language ¿jöx? two (dii, some kind of latin?) all (Jömde is not Seri, but another language, it looks like homdi, which is Tale, a constructed language based on Dutch) language ¿hualtecras? (made up, I guess it means natively)
- "Seri": Inflewentenam coccebj ctám necaitom Cmique Itom jöx diijömde itóm hualtecras
- Conclusion: Speedily reject the "Seri" Wikipedia. (also useful if you've got a little bit of knowledge of many languages) --OosWesThoesBes 15:41, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
General discussion
edit- Question: Why do we write this Wikipedia in Latin writing and no in Greekish or another writing. Latin writing wasn't original writing of th Seri people. I think it's more better, more cleaner and more beautiful to write this ensiklopédiam in Greek Αλθα-Βετα. Ποηραβασ 14:14, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- Because the Spanish brought Latin script to Mexico. SeriCtam 14:26, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- The right and only answer should be because Seri is written in the Latin script. GerardM 16:31, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
