- this language is not used anywhere but I think that it would be useful for those who are being educated in the language, similar to "Simple English". Simple English has its own Wikipedia here, so I think that it would be appropriate to have one for French, another common language.
- Comment: "Simple French" does exist in the form of handicap-accessible French used by the gov't of Québec. See [1], particularly the "Ortograf altêrnatif". 128.187.0.164 20:25, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Support
edit- somakun -- a simple french wikipedia would be greatly beneficial for people who are at a stage in their learning where, structurally, they can make sense of the language but their vocabulary is still developing. Recognizing structure and intuitively figuring out what certain words mean in their given context could be extremely useful for internalizing vocab.
- A-yao: So that more people has the opportunity to learn French. Even though it isn't a language, it is helpful for those who speak French.
- Support --Reo On|+|+ 00:02, 4 September 2006 (UTC) count my vote as weak support. I do not know french so far, but I would be interested in reading in it, it would be helpfull the same way, as the simple english is. (And it really is). Support is conditional, I would like to see more of potential contributors.
- Support --Vladyslav Savelo 00:43, 2 October 2006 (UTC) I would like to read simplified French. This way you will spread your unique language.

Oppose
edit- Oppose. Simple French is useless for people which speak French (including those who are at school). simplefr is not an ISO 639 code. French is not closely related to English. (1 August 2006)

- As a matter of fact, the government of Québec does employ simplified "handicap-accessible" French at times. But I'm not really interested in this project (count me as "weak neutral"). The Jade Knight 06:43, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

- Oppose French can never be simple ;-) But honestly: those "simple" requests are starting to get boring! What'll come next? "Simple Cantonese"? "Simple Inuktitut"? I think focusing on using an understandable, straightforward style of writing in the existing French, German, Spanish etc. Wikipedias is what readers will benefit from most. --ARBE0 17:07, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Alternative to "simple" language wiki
editThey might be an other way to meet some of the objectives of a "simple" language wiki, that would have good reason to spread in several language. That would be a wikipedia aimed, designed for children. That could be of course used as well by people whom it isn't the mother language, people with learning disablility or just adults that just want a simple and quick overview on a subject if the wikipédia article is long and hard.
The idea arose on the french wikipedia (fr:Projet:Wikipédia Junior) and on the german one. It is promising if it gives children or teenagers the opportunity to edit and involve in building it (witch has even been done in german and dutch, with pretty good sucess, see the links on the pages.) I thought that it should be a new wikimedia project, and wanted to propose it. It was allready proposed, so I did edit both the discussion and the project page here : wikikids and Talk:wikikids. (it is on the proposal page here : Proposals_for_new_projects#Wikikids). Your comments would be appreciated. Astirmays 21:05, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- There is no Simple French Wikipedia. But there is a project which might meet your needs: Vikidia, a kids' encyclopedia which anyone can edit. As of July 2009, Vikidia is available in two languages: French and Spanish. Cheers, Unforgettableid 03:27, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
