The closing committee member provided the following comment:

Simple Spanish fails the uniqueness criterion for eligibility, namely that it be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki. Simple Spanish also does not have the required ISO 639-3 code except as a subset of Spanish, which is covered by the current Spanish Wikipedia. —Pathoschild 21:41:08, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and one of the main languages in America (mostly in California, Florida, and Texas). This language can be hard on those who can't speak it fluently. By doing this, it helps to provide the means of helping people read simple spanish. There is about 377,299,171 (or more) speaking it. Also, english has a | simple version of itself, so why shouldn't Spnaish have it?
