The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Settings
Project name Віківерситет "Wikiversity" in your language
Project namespace Віківерситет usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace Обговорення Віківерситет "Wikiversity talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads yes Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo File:Wikiversity-logo-uk.svg This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

I'd like to start the Ukrainian Wikiversity or help in starting it.

    Wikiversity will organize the knowledge we have in Ukrainian Wiki so they will be accessible for more systematic study. For instance we have more than 10 000 articles about biology. We can organize them in a progressive order to teach biology in Wikiversity: Lets say we can teach Botanics in a evolutionary progress (starting from an ancestral forms and going on towards derived forms). In case of Biophysics we can start with biophysical methods, then go on to the Biophysics of cells, then move on to the biophysics of organs (muscles, intestine) and finish with the biophysics of complex systems. We also have have a wikiproject:School in progress. Krystofer
    Haven't you thought of contributing to the Ukrainian Wikibooks with this material? It seems to fall under its scope, with a significant part of the project's content being represented in the form exactly like you've described it above, e.g. divided into separate classes. This can solve the problem of providing learning materials, especially given that Wikibooks lack biological entries for now. --Microcell 17:02, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Anyway Ukrainian Wikiversity cannot be created unless there is any significant activity. For example, the materials mentioned above should be moved from ukwiki to betawikiversity:Portal:Школа, where the structure is already completed.   Comment As far as I can see, for 12 years there were no real actions for the project to go live. Apart from the fact that there is no active community of editors, which is the most crucial fact in the creation of new project, most of the content in beta wikiversity seems to be either out of the scope or copyright violation of some sort, also with some portion of pure spam. In these conditions, I am not sure whether it is still worth considering this project to be done any time soon.----reNVoy (user talk) 12:32, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Application of the data from Ukrainian wiki for self-education.

  • Hi. I would like to draw your attention that the present articles in Ukrainian wiki in general are good, but lack the integrity and well structured system. Not so many specialist in their own area of expertise are involved in the wiki development (no offense, because the same you can say about English and French wiki as well -- quantity does not mean quality). I'm not sure how many experienced professors are involved in the project to create a presentation or lecture on some subject simultaneously for readers of different levels. For this you need to have some articles already prepared for a profound reading. In my opinion even the English wiki is not ready for this. Therefore, I'm sure that students and people with some particular interest will use Ukrainian (or other language) wiki for self-education, but definitely they will need some additional literature and to study in a real university to obtain a complete system of knowledge.
