Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Gilaki

Gilaki Wiktionary

edit
submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code glk (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Gilaki Language name in English
Language name گیلکی Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q33657 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality RTL Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name "Wiktionary" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wiktionary talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Continent/City "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Arguments against

edit
  • This is one out of 5 proposals for a Gilaki wiki. Though Limburgish has so many proposals too there's a difference. There's no activity and Gilaki does not seem to be ready get for a Wikibooks, a Wikinews, a Wikiquote, a Wiktionary nor a Wikiversity. Maybe this will change in the future but not now. If there's any activity shown, I'll become in favour of this request. --OosWesThoesBes 15:56, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your comment for wikversity, but wiktionary must be in another domain that could be worked, In incubator there is no possiblity to growing it, Because the nature of wiktionary is different by other wiki projects. --Ali 15:19, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's nonsense! I've worked at the incubator for the Lozi wiktionary and there are zero problems. --OosWesThoesBes 15:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can visit logs for mzn & glk wikipedias, when they were in incubator Growing was zero, And you compare them by now, In incubator, we are unable to linking interwikis, And i only would like to contribute for meaning, and not commentary of a word in Caspish, You got what i mean exactly or not? Even if a project is inactive, There is a way to closing it, I talk these all about wiktionary, and not about wikversity which i also don't supporting it--Ali 18:21, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedias are more standard, so you should expect them to grow fast. There are interwiki's on the incubator, only to Wikipedia so I understand it's not possible. But bots like VolkovBot will add the interwiki's later on automatically. Projects aren't made to be closed, but to be active. I'm just warning you that if there's no activity on the incubator, your project won't ever be approved. --OosWesThoesBes 18:37, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The important part of approvation is translation of messages, Also if Volkova do it, Why she didn't add interwikis for mzn wikipedia, There are too many unlinked articles, Wiktionary for me is equivalent to wikipedia, Also please don't expect to being active 24/7, There are some activities, What is the minimum of activity in your opinion? --Ali 18:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]
There's a difference in interwiki's on Wikipedias and Wiktionaries. Bots will automatically link to another language on a wiktionary when it exists. On wikipedia this will only be done if there are interwikilinks in the article itself already. I think the minimum activity for a Wiktionary is 250 edits each month and 3 active editors. If this can be accomplished I'll strike this vote and I will become in favour :) --OosWesThoesBes 19:08, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, 250 edits couldn't be done, I can show you the long list of other projects of wikimedia not have at least 250 edits, Also they haven't even more than 250 articles, I know the requirements of linking interwikis, So too many pages in Caspish wikipedia have english interwikis, As well as some english articles have mzn interwikis, too. But there is no bot activity of them :( ... Even about half of wikipedias have not 250 user edits per month, So no one take care about your proposal, It's not resonable --Ali 13:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I, personally didn't propose mzn wiktionary, And i'm going to improving glk wt, Because i'm aware of activity in wp not resembles to the same language in wt. --Ali 13:49, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
250 is very little activity. Those wikis you mention were created before the new policy. 250 edits per 3 users is only 90 edits per user each month, so 3 edits per user a day. If you find that too much I can't understand why you want to create new projects! --OosWesThoesBes 14:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, It's perhaps little for you, Still there is no policy about the conditions of activity, Although i'm visiting wikipedia most of the times, But i'm not there daily, neither i'd like to addicting on it, Nor others even know what are the wiki projects & wp in Caspia, I only would like to adding words in wt because it simply translates caspian words into other languages, And it would be the first dictionary of caspish to directly translating words into other languages, Also i didn't try to creating new projects, Just wt, wn, & ws are the important and helpfull ones --Ali 15:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

if gilaki wikitionary get start, we work on it and there is not any problem--AminSanaei 11:54, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not bad meant but you can wait a million years without an active test project. Please read the official policy. I'll quote: There is an active test project on the Multilingual Wikisource (Wikisource only), Beta Wikiversity (Wikiversity only), or the Incubator (all other projects). I'm in favour of this project if there'll be an active test. --OosWesThoesBes 13:01, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
don't get hard!, Slowly slowly we can absorb people to this wikis; like gilaki wikipedia; and you see that gilaki in the internet is new language and want time to grow thing--AminSanaei 04:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

General discussion

edit

As a native caspian speaker (no matter western gileki or mazanderani) I support this project, I'll contribute & i'll add translation of words in caspian for most of it's languages (Gileki and Mazanderani)
for example: for the word Construction:

  • Caspian
    • GLK:Chakuden / sattan
    • MZN:Besaten

Currently 1.01% of the MediaWiki messages and 0.00% of the messages of the extensions used by the Wikimedia Foundation are localised. This is a prerequisite for a second project. GerardM 13:01, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, We aware of it, And will be translated during upcoming monthes, Stay cool! I saw other proposals that not approved for more than 8 monthes.--Ali 20:32, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Localisation update

edit
  • Currently 0.89% of the MediaWiki messages and 0.10% of the messages of the extensions used by the Wikimedia Foundation projects have been localised. Localisation of these messages is a requirement before your request is finally assessed. This is the recent localisation activity for your language. Thanks, GerardM 12:50, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
