Research:The wikipedist community in Portuguese language. A new social Portrait
This page is under construction. Please help review and edit this page. |
This page documents a planned research project.
Information may be incomplete and change before the project starts.
Who are the people editing the Portuguese Wikipedia, and where are they located? What motivates them, and what challenges do they face? What are the age groups and education levels of these contributors? Essentially, who are we?
Methods
editThis research draws inspiration from the pioneering work and standardized methodology developed by professor and researcher Pedro Rodrigues Costa, who previously sought to unveil a social portrait of the Wikipedia community in Portuguese.[1] Although our research is based on Costa's work, we have made modifications to the original survey to facilitate analysis, tabulation, and standardization of responses, as well as to address topics not covered in his study. The complete survey methodology will be outlined, and the results and analysis will be made public through a comprehensive research resource summarizing the main findings. We will also present the data at community meetings.
The survey is divided into three sections, containing a total of 36 questions. It will be available on the Esplanade and individual discussion pages for a period of 35 days. The survey design is straightforward, featuring a single moment of data collection through an online questionnaire created on the LimeSurvey platform.
The target audience consists of individuals who are active participants in creating and editing entries during the survey period.
The survey link will be placed on the Portuguese Wikipedia in the "Esplanade" section. If this strategy proves insufficient in the first few days, the survey will also be shared on the discussion pages of the Wikipedians who contribute during this timeframe. Additionally, the survey may be posted in private groups on social media platforms.
Our goal is to reach at least 500 active Wikipedia contributors editing in Portuguese
