SUSPI - The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland is a Swiss university focussed on applied research.
The Laboratory of Visual Culture has been developing since 2011 research projects linked to Wikipedia and open licenses.
The project “Mobile Access to Knowledge: Culture and Safety in Africa. Documenting and assessing the impact of cultural events and public art on urban safety” (2011-2013) was focussed on the cities of Douala in Cameroon, Luanda in Angola and Johannesburg in South Africa and was producing open content also for Wikipedia; this project also established partnerships between the research unit and 11 other institutions (amongst which the University of Cape Town, African Centre for Cities).
Thanks to the research team from the Laboratory of Visual Culture at the Department for Environment Constructions and Design and from the Department of Formation and Learning, SUPSI specifically contributes to the project Wikipedia Primary School SSAJRP programme by focusing on managing and implementing the establishment of the Scientific Committee and the “Wikipedia Scientific Journal”, and by providing the support for the evaluation process.
