Transparency

Hello. This notification is in the interests of transparency. I have made a couple of mistakes by arguing out Checkuser on Wikinews, where I hold sysop permission. I was looking into some possible crosswiki disruption late at night rather than getting some sleep. When looking for the talk page of a user I had blocked (User:Darkfrog24) the search bar showed another account which suggested possible disruption to the wiki (User:DarkfrogDidNothingWrong). Since User:Darkfrog24 is blocked on two wikis I carried out a CU at LoginWiki and noticed User:DarkfrogDidNothingWrong was quite probably also the creator of several additional accounts. This is where I made the mistake of doing a CU on Wikinews to confirm the results. I realised I’d made a mistake almost straightaway and in hindsight I should have asked another steward to do it. I reported the general results of the CU at Wikinews:Admin action alerts. I also reported myself to the stewards mailing list, explaining my errors. --Green Giant (talk) 17:32, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

This is closed by a non-steward as the account is locked as LTA. Is a steward required to confirm the closure?--GZWDer (talk) 10:17, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Or, @BRPever: should formally close the request.--GZWDer (talk) 10:17, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
I have seen such requests either being removed or closed as not done in the past. For this one, I will just confirm the closure. Thanks -BRP ever 10:59, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Abusive rename request granted

Hi,

I can't view Special:GlobalRenameQueue/request/63408, but it seems to have been deceptive and should probably not have been granted. Perhaps it should even be forcefully reversed, or the account globally locked.

The English Wikipedia user Kohaku015, after having been warned about their conduct by Kulotchii on the English Wikipedia, has requested a global rename to KuIotchii.

Ping: Turkmen, who had been tricked into granting this request.

The following complaint led to this report: en:Special:Diff/957010404

Best regards, ToBeFree (talk) 16:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

I locked the account. Ruslik (talk) 20:06, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Hello @ToBeFree: Usually, when renaming, the system notifies us when there is a username close to the existing name. I changed the name because there was no warning. I apologize for the mistake. Regards, Turkmen talk 22:31, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi Turkmen, no worries from my side. Thanks for the quick explanation. Ruslik0, thank you very much for taking the time to review and resolve the situation. Best regards, ToBeFree (talk) 22:40, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Use {{unblock}} for requesting a global unblock?

Hello. Some IP addresses here have been requesting for global unblocks by utilizing the {{unblock}} template. There is currently no global unblock template here, do we actually need a global unblock template though? 61.252.212.120 17:28, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

These requests is handled on the page Steward requests/Global. The page contains information on what to do if you can't edit the page directly. -- Tegel (Talk) 21:01, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

IP 2607:fb90::/32

Hey, would you please extend the global block for this IP address, this IP address has a long-term history of global blocks, with the last four global blocks being three months long. I think that it's definitely time to extend this IP's global block to at least six months-one year. How about that? 60.239.2.76 23:15, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Not the place for such requests, and clearly no requirement from guidance from IP editors.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:32, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Should Rxy (talk · contribs) be globally banned from the WMF as a Wikimedia steward?

I just heard from a global request for comment that rxy should be globally banned as a steward. You heard me right, as a steward, because there's a request for comment saying that an local indefinite ban should be made for him on the Japanese Wikipedia, because he was being rude to other admins, and also violating the global terms of service. 2601:2C6:4B80:4E70:F57D:B076:E1F4:B045 04:37, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Stewards are elected for a year by the community, with annual review by the community year upon year. Wikis manage their local processes, especially large wikis like jaWP, and noting stewards do not act with their stewards powers at their local wikis. So I don't think that we should be responding to whispers from IP addresses, especially unsubstantiated, unresponded accusations.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:30, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
