  • What went well in the event?
A different approach to hackathons with a training mode. For me, the audience was different from my usual University students type - and hence made a great experience. Also, we had Mediawiki hackers like Sejal and Anmol in the team as well, which was nice. Also, for a change we were sitting on the floor and hacking Mediawiki, which was kind of a different fun.
  • What did not go well during the event, and how it could be improved?
Well, from the organizations perspective - this was smoothly organized. Probably, a bit more of Mediawiki hacking and make all participants hack on their own was something I missed. Also connecting everyone to Mediawiki IRC channels were misesd. But I guess this was not the intention anyway, hence - I think we were going good. Even though, again I found out the sad truth that it would be a mistake to live demo something which is not 100% documented!
  • What did you learn in the workshop?
This was a learning event for me as well, as my recent contributions to Mediawiki was mostly code review and not a lot of PHP code writing as such. I found out couple of issues that can come up while live demo-ing writing a functional extension.
  • What learning did you share with others?
I was leading part of the workshop with Jay. This went well I hope and I could demo most of the stuff thinking out loud. At times this got too technical, but I hope the participants could understand how to tackle a real-world problem.
  • Your planned future activities?
Hope to connect with the participants, and hopefully engage in more hours of hacking if time allows.

What went well in the event?
Understanding the MediaWiki extenstion structure with the example of BoilerPlate extension and l10/i18n of extensions with JSON files. The hack with Echo notification was amazing.

What did not go well during the event, and how it could be improved?
By far, everything went great. I was expecting some more hack-oriented tasks (kinda solving real tasks on Phabricator) or at least discussion on a few of them.

What did you learn in the workshop?
I learnt extension structure, using Echo notifications, creating your own special pages etc.

What learning did you share with others?
Uploading patches to Gerrit via CLI, Phabricator, setting up MediaWiki from developer builds, and some hacking I did with Ananth.

Your planned future activities?
I am planning to write my own basic extension and skin and integrate it with different extensions. I will do a blog series on MediaWiki development to help others start hacking MediaWiki. I will attend future workshops on MediaWiki and stay connected with other participants.

  • What went well in the event?
As a complete novice, with no significant technical knowledge, I had a target to learn some basics. I got help from Jayprakash12345, who helped me in each and every simple steps. my expectation from this workshop was met.
  • What did not go well during the event, and how it could be improved?
I was facing some difficulties to cope up with advanced technical learning, as I was the only one with no programming knowledge.
  • What did you learn in the workshop?
I learned to install mediawiki and upload patch by gerrit.
  • What learning did you share with others?
Nothing, I am just an early learner myself.
  • Your planned future activities?
Nothing significant. Will try to resolve minor bugs in phabricator.-- Bodhisattwa (talk) 16:11, 29 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
