Would be useful but there could be alternatives

This is for example a problem when using a gadget that loads since last seen diffs since these pages can have very many revisions since one last visited them.

While it's good to describe (a) potential solution(s), I'm not sure if the one described here is the best. It could still be useful but maybe there are some better alternatives (that e.g. could be implemented alongside or before this).

For example, maybe one could mark some pages meta discussion pages (or highly active meta discussion pages) and have these show up differently on the Watchlist so for example you only get notified about a) new threads and b) replies in threads you subscribed to.
