Better to add a search

It may be useful but I think it would barely be used – people usually either already which exact template they're looking for and just forget the precise name or would be helped more by a way to search the templates. In a search they could also the term of the category the template has so searching for Wikidata would show all the templates in Category:Wikidata templates. This could be implemented by making a search for the template namespace available wherever you think it would be useful. Prototyperspective (talk) 23:20, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

@Prototyperspective: I agree. Category search is slightly tricky, in that we don't have a concept of a "template category" and so would perhaps have to pre-build a cache of the entire category tree starting at Category:Templates (or whatever the top level is for a given wiki). Anyway, it sounds like this wish is specifically about browsing categories, and I've created a task for that, phab:T392553. The task for category searching is phab:T392245.
