Nature
editThis is a sociocultural issue that I doubt is solvable via a technical means. Nardog (talk) 01:45, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- Moreover, it seems to rare and negligible to need to be addressed. Note that some people may not link these pages deliberately and they could be asked to link them. It's not really causing any significant issues. Prototyperspective (talk) 12:09, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- You sure that technical solution will not make more easy and fast to give a link, but to ask someone or try to search is the best and the easiest solution during a communication? Well, that's how toxic barriers in this project arise. Lvova (talk) 16:54, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- It needs just four characters and to make the wikilink so it clearly does not need some technical changes. If you see somebody not linking it, you could ask them to link it. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:45, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- So if someone does something a bit unfriendly to save time, I (or a newbie) should spend some time with the hope that the answer will be friendly. Did not convince me at all. Lvova (talk) 22:07, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- The unliked WP:xyz rarely occurs and when it does occur it's not a big problem. Other editors can ask the person to link the WP:xyz thing or simply provide such a link. Another way this could be addressed is to search for discussions with unlinked WP: in them and then link that, don't know if that's possible. Prototyperspective (talk) 22:12, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

- Shortcuts are used not only to save time, but to signal membership—that you've been around, that you know what you're talking about, that you belong to a group. That's cultural. Even if you successfully banned them, which is extremely unlikely, they would find other means to signal membership that are opaque to newcomers; it's just human nature. - Agreed. Enwiki tried to create w:Template:WP, but it didn't catch on. * Pppery * it has begun 20:25, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
Namespace alias
editWP:
is on many Wikipedias (not sure if all) a namespace alias, which makes it synonimic for software to the full Wikipedia:
. Thus, WP:NPOV and Wikipedia:NPOV are the same page and not one being a redirect to another. I'm not sure what is proposed here apart from such a special treatment as is already done (provided that the wiki is configured so–which is kind of trivial change to do and can be done faster that through Wishlist). Msz2001 (talk) 08:53, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- No, the question is not in aliases. Lvova (talk) 16:50, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
Add a link button
editThanks for this wish @Lvova, I think I understand what you mean and it is a good idea. The "Add a link" button (looks like two linked chain rings) in the edit talk page dialog sort of has this functionality. As mentioned above, in English Wikipedia "WP" is a namespace alias so for example you click "Add a link", start typing "wp:npov" and then if the first option is clicked 'Wikipedia:Neutral point of view' is inserted. I suggest somehow the link 'NPOV' is inserted instead, fulfilling your wish I think. This would be a great time saver, especially on mobile.
Incidentally, does anyone know if the "Add a link" function can clean up urls to wikilinks? Eg you paste https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Meta:Babel&curid=69328&diff=27636712&oldid=27636711 and it converts to Special:Diff/27636711? Commander Keane (talk) 00:17, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
