The election is concerning two persons. What will be the structure of Board ?

edit

There are five board members. Three are "permanent" and can be replaced by being elected by the board itself (see Article IV, section 2.1), Two are elected by Wikimedia Foundation members, that is, editors of Wikimedia projects, and represent them.

How many members ?

edit

The elections will only be for two seats. Anthere 17:26, 19 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Will the former elected/designated members stay ?

edit

The former elected members will have to run again. Anthere 17:26, 19 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the bylaws

edit

Article IV, section 2 of the bylaws says "The initial Trustees shall be elected by a majority vote of the Trustees and shall serve until their successors are elected and qualified.(...)". Article V, section 1 says "The Board of Trustees shall elect from among its members a Chair, Vice Chair, Executive Secretary and Treasurer.(...)". That means the Board is at least 4 persons. Why are we electing only two persons ? --Traroth

There are 5 board members. 3 are "permanent" (until we change the structure, which is very likely to happen soon, and we have budgeted $3000 to pay for legal advice about the right way to do it), and 2 are elected. Successors to the 3 permanent members are replaced by being elected by the board itself (see Article IV, section 2.1), the 2 elected members are by election. --Jimbo Wales 19:03, 28 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

At least 400 edits - where?

edit

Election notice says 400 edits in total is necessary for right to vote. On the other hand Election candidates 2005/En says " you must have more than 400 edits on one of the Wikimedia projects". Is it inconsistent?

Currently there is no distinction in the qualifications required of candidates and voters. For technical reasons, a user is required to have at least 400 edits on one of the Wikimedia projects.

What about non-logged-in edits (from IP addresses associated with some user account)? What about edits from multiple accounts belonging to the same person (same email address etc.)? There is no policy against either of these types of edits.

  1. "Sorry, you made only 319 edits before 00:00, 2005 May 30. You need at least 400 to be able to vote." – at [[meta:]], works from en: (and if you know the URL at de:, eo:, ro: etc.)
    1. Question: How to distinguish "multiple" votes if you are not able to identify the contributors because they use different (spellings of their) user names?
  2. en:MediaWiki:Sitenotice&oldid=17802126: "All active users are invited to vote in the Elections for the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation." This notice is not available at a couple of wiki's. Where are instructions how to add / implement it?

  1. Sorry I can't figure what you mean. Or it is an answer to the questions on the above?
    1. User name is not only the way to identify users. As for summing up activities on multipul wiki, the Election Officials have been suggested its potential hazard to allow fraud, and our tech stuff said it incresed risk of flaud. We are sorry to multiple editors on wiki, and expect they will be able to vote in the next turn.
  2. The unavailability of sitenotice depends the judgement of local wikis' administrators; technically the message is available on every wiki at least the above of MediaWiki:Sitenotice thanks to new imprement. And we hope every administrators of every wiki pay attention and help to promote the vote.

  1. As you have seen I made a test at several wikis. It's great that you have corrected the votes.
  2. The message about elections has been introduced at wikipedia:ro: (bugzilla:2406) some days ago. I was wondering why so late and am puzzeled about communication channels to all Foundation projects (if they are efficient or not). Let us discuss this another time. What stands for 24:00 on Election schedule?

edit

Please replace it with 23:59.

Are you allowed to choose per project or are you allowed to choose once

edit

When you have enough edits on multiple projects are you allowed to choose multiple times or is this something you check by hand ??

You can vote only on one project. The Election Officials will check for multiple entries from the same user on different projects. Datrio 08:24, 29 Jun 2005 (UTC)

How do we determine number of edits prior to specific time?

edit

Although I do not currently qualify to vote in this election (due to my first edit not having been more than 90 days ago), I nonetheless have a question that might prove helpful to those wishing to determine whether or not they qualify:

"How do we determine number of edits prior to specific time?"

Reason for this question: You (Wikipedia Elections page) asked: "In order to vote you must have at least 400 edits prior to 00:00 May 30, 2005 (UTC) on the Wikimedia project from which you cast your vote. The first edit must have been 90 days or more before the time of voting" [1]

When I went to Kate's tool, the very interesting and useful edit counter, it told me the "total" number of edits, but it would not let me know the number of edits for a certain time period. (For example, it would not tell me how many "edits prior to 00:00 May 30, 2005 (UTC)" I've made.) (If there is no way to determine this easily, I would politely request that you "retool" Kate's tool to allow this function; I would make a function that allows it to count between any two time-periods.)

CAVEAT: Even as it stands, it appears that I've made about 298 contributions before May 30, based on my copying and pasting all of my "contributions" [2] into a text editor and counting the replacements using a tool in my editor (Microsoft Works: Edit--> Replace --> "Works has completed its search of the document and has made 298 replacements [of the word "diff," which represents one edit].") Thus, most editors, if they are as active as myself, would probably easily meet the "400" requirement -even if they had only been editing for 90 days. But some may not, and thus my question may prove useful.--GordonWattsDotCom 05:02, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Just vote and see if it fails. --84.42.165.49 02:23, 3 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Hmm.. Thank you; good idea.--GordonWattsDotCom 6 July 2005 07:29 (UTC)

Not able to vote

edit

Maybe this is the wrong place for this question, but still ...

When I try to vote, I get the great message "Deine erste Bearbeitung liegt leider nur 371 Tage zurück. Um für die Abstimmung zu qualifizieren, muß deine erste Bearbeitung jedoch mindestens 90 Tage zurückliegen." (in english: your first edit is 371 days old. To qualify, your first edit has to be at least 90 days old).

Now, I am a little bit confused! --Mrehker 14:24, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Deine weitere Information helfen uns sehr. Gruss, --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 14:40, 30 Jun 2005 (UTC)

de.wikipedia.org: not able to vote / Fehler in der Übersetzung

edit

Hi there,

me to, I'm not eligible to vote in the german wikipedia, apparently because I've not yet reached the 400 edits. But the message in German contains some errors:

  • the age of the first contribution is not calculated, but a date is given...
  • typo: getätigt (only one t, please)

The message I got:

Deine erste Bearbeitung liegt leider nur 110 Tage zurück.
Um für die Abstimmung zu qualifizieren, muß deine erste Bearbeitung
jedoch mindestens 00:00, 30. Mai 2005 Tage zurückliegen
und du musst mindestens 400 Edits getättigt haben.

--j.e Hallo, j.e. I put your message on de:MediaWiki talk:Boardvote notqualified. We should have German Wikipedia admins fix it. Thank you for your notice. --Aphaia | Translate Election | ++ 07:28, 1 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Misleading nonqualified message

edit

Bełamp tried to vote but received next not qualified message:

You are not qualified to vote in this election. You need to have made 400 edits before 00:00,
1.жніўня.2006, you have made 154. Also, your first edit was at 06:51, 1.красавіка.2006,
it needs to be before 00:00, 3.траўня.2006.

Problem is: April 1 (1 красавіка) is definitely were before May 3 (3 траўня). He is fully compliant with date of first contribution requirement.

Interface may cause double voting?

edit

I noticed my vote from en: wikipedia was counted twice with a two-minute gap - see 14:34, 2005 July 2 and 14:36, 2005 July 2 in Special:Boardvote/list, however I only clicked the vote button once. Is it possible that the interface causes a double-vote when the user (me) saves the confirmation page containing the record of the vote? Otherwise could the election officials please confirm that my "last" vote was valid (as per the Election_FAQ_2005), and that I voted for three candidates? Thanks, -Wikibob 15:00, 2 Jul 2005 (UTC)
