Family Tree??

What about a family-tree-wiki, the contribution of Wikimedia to genealogy?

Come and join Angela and Jimmy and a few others at the Genealogy Wikicity. One of the users has devised a program that lets him add complete new multi-heading categorised pages for individuals, direct from a GEDCOM file, at a rate of several per minute. Some of us add our ancestors a little more slowly but very satisfactorily. Robin Patterson 12:06, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
The end result of the wikitree/rodovid merger will be applying to become associated with wikimedia. GEDCOM import is already working on rodovid. Mayhew18 5 est, 5 june 2006

Wikipoetry

An idea for Wikipedia Poetry:

At the moment in the sandbox poetry – it says – ‘do not edit other people’s poems’. This seems out of the spirit of Wikipedia. Surely there are on the Web, or can be created on Wikipedia an area for merely mere to display their poems. However, in keeping with the wiki-mentally a collective-poem writing exercise seems the way to go.

How would this work?

As with other pages, you put your content on the page, and other people can add, edit, copy, reorganize etc. History can be kept – poems can split in two like a forked path – and join together like tributaries to a great river.

There could be a place to put ‘ideas’ probably in prose for poems. You could start a poem and ask others to complete it. It could be subdivided into narrative, didactic, humourous, epic, ‘hip-hop’ etc. poetry. And themes: death, Renaissance, Internet, nature, revolution!

What precedents?

If I understand it well, ancient poetry was made in a similar collaborative effort. There was not one version of a poem, but the poems were turned by different tongues and progressively modified – whilst retaining the same central story. This I believe is how much early Homeric poetry was created, the difference being we will be using our keyboards.

What other projects?

It could be envisaged that this format if successful could be used for other story-telling formats in prose.

Please add an Export Tool

It is inevitable for the success of Mediawiki to have a good export tool present. Even less advanced wikis support this kind of functionality.

Watch it!

I don't know where the general "Community portal" is around here, but I thought I should make this generally known: [1] — Assuming this dude doesn't lose interesting, someone should definately be keeping an eye on this place. 68.39.174.238 04:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Subpages Lost ;(

I like the current design in general, but can hardly support the idea to quit to follow past announcements and discussions kept in subpages for the purpose of archive. In addition, it makes no sense for me to kept the latter part of 2005 information but remove all the 1st trimester information from this page even a link to that.

Now I came to give a look to past announcement (around June 2005), kept in subpages, but no link is available. I strongly state the current designer has to modify this layout and provide the community with links to those subpages. --Aphaia 15:27, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Stub Templates in Wikipedia

I want to suggest that stub templates get a line break between them and the text of the article. Where is the proper forum for me to suggest it? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 17:24, 8 July 2006 (UTC) It would be best if it was built into the software rather then dependent on the user to add the break. Here are two examples of how they look with and without:
no line break
added line break

Error?

I do not know if it's an error or not, but in the Test Wikipedia I could check comments in subpages talks are not noticed like in user pages:

You have new messages (differences in last edit)

Something similar. When adding a comment in a subpage like "User Talk:Foo/Test", Foo has not any message when logging in.

I also want to say (in the Test Wikipedia there is no Village Pump), I created a guest account, to let unregistered users experiment editing, moving, button bar... with same purposals that es:Usuario:Invitado (pybalo) (which is not mine, is from Pybalo) and maybe some more, like talk editings (I needed two accounts to do that test). If it causes any annoyance, you can block it and refer to me. Thank you.--Nethac DIU 11:30, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

You can leave comments for the test at the community portal there. Daniel () Check out Wikiscope! 14:55, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
In the main page talk? I see, I now found the Village pump. Thanks. I'll do that. --Nethac DIU 19:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Editing in fur:w

Hi, I have put this question on en:w but nobody has answered it.

On Wikipedia in Furlan, when someone edits the labels are displaced higher and lefter, like this. User Brion has said that is an missing

tag in any MediaWiki page. But I don't know all MediaWiki page name to look for the mistake. Where I can find thiss list.

I watch it also on Esperanto Wikipedia

Sorry for my poor English, after I leave an castilian translation.

Please add New Project Proposal: WikiTimeScale

Hi, I have just added a new project proposal named WikiTimeScale. In the help page for new project proposal it says that I should "Advertise the project on Goings-on as well.". So, of course this page is protected and now I think maybe it means just write it on the discussions page and wait for an admin to do this ;) greetings... DontPanic 15:54, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Wik Bullies, Thugs and Ferals

Howcome the Australian editors with the help of some offshore admins are beign totally rude and ignornat to new editors and claimign they are using 'sockpuppets' when I had to look up what that was, and am not etc?

Registered user 'Gretaw' has been blocked along with my block when Gretaw is totally absolutely nil to do with me. The admins who did this are either Gretaw or they have attacked a totally not involved reg wik user.

Whatever, the go at me on wikipedia has been pretty disgusting and bad form wik that you allow this bully stuff to happen on your site. Check out that Gretaw stuff and what Thatcher131, Golden Wattle, Longhair/Durova, and any other whinney ones - oh I forgot the pompous Sarah Uhart. There was the spree slope Grahame something also.

bad show wik. Poor form and disgusting org.
