Training
editHi ManosHacker, thank you for your suggestion. The issue of education for Wikimedians is coming up time and again: training for arbiters, administrators, regular editors, so that we recognize harassment, understand how the victim feels, understand that the victim might behave poorly as a result of the stress, and so on. - In Wikipedia School of Athens editors are trained not to feel like victims at all. Martial arts philosophy comes very handy in this, along with psychology overview of this training. We are willing to share any time.--ManosHacker (talk) 07:46, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- Manos, I've never heard of what you're doing, but it sounds really interesting. It seems you're teaching people how to protect themselves against bullying. One of the things I've watched on the English Wikipedia are editors, particularly women, ending up in bad spots because they've reacted poorly to bullying. That dynamic isn't always recognized by admins and arbitration committees, who have several times ended up sanctioning victims.
- Are there any links you could share to the Wikipedia School of Athens? I'm going to ping Siko (WMF) and Catavar, who have been involved in setting up an Ally Skills Workshop at Wikimania. Also, Manos, you might be interested in the suggestion I made that the Foundation hire an expert in harassment; see Harassment consultation 2015/Ideas/Hire a harassment expert. and material not translated yet that's on the way.
Asaf has watched this, in live execution.--ManosHacker (talk) 20:55, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, Manos, I particularly like Paradise and Hell. SarahSV talk 21:07, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, education is a good thing! Mediators also can be some of the best educators since they deal with specific people (usually the most problematic ones) and specific behaviors or intellectual/policy conflicts. 108.48.226.250 03:10, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
