Proposed additions

Wikiversity

I'm very happy that I can propose Wikiversity to be included in this great list. --Eric R. Meyers 12:27, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

See the very page we're discussing: Wikimedia Foundation projects shouldn't be added here, since they're already in the database.. If Wikiversity isn't there yet, ask Brion. MaxSem 17:50, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Check it Main Page (Main Page) Koavf 00:03, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Problems Now it's not working... Any help here? Koavf 18:53, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

The shortcut form is working (see v:Main Page), but the long form is not (see wikiversity:Main Page). From what I can see, most, if not all, of the WikiMedia projects on in the Interwiki map (see Wikibooks, Commons, Wikisource, Wikispecies, MetaWikiPedia, Wikinews, Wikimedia, Incubator, Wikiquote, MW (MediaWiki), bugzilla). User:BlankVerse 06:31, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

On list are wikisource, wikibooks, wiktionary. Just add Wikiversity --Li-sung 08:17, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

There's no interwiki for the beta.wikiversity. Is it possible to fix it? Schiste 07:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
So which interwiki name you suggested? for example wikiversity-beta, or beta-wikiversity? --Shinjiman 08:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

lyriki

Links to the lyrics wiki lyriki are used on many music articles in Wikipedia. A good prefix would obviously be "lyriki". URL format: http://lyriki.com/index.php?title=$1 —Kenyon 03:06, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Could you perchance show some examples of where this site is used as a reference on Wikipedia? I'm afraid I've never seen it used anywhere before. AmiDaniel 03:21, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes: w:A Jackknife to a Swan, w:Back to the Known, w:Fat Lip, w:Day of the Death, w:The Guns of Brixton, and many others can be found with search. They generally have links to lyriki in their external links section. Kenyon 08:04, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Such links are likely to removed from Wikipedia for violating copyright, so perhaps this shouldn't exist for the same reason the YouTube interwiki was removed. See Talk:Interwiki map#YouTube. Angela 17:19, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Not done per copyright concerns. MaxSem 10:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

YouTube

Please add youtube:with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=$1 URI. Thanks. Danny B. 21:49, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Done. Will work after a delay. — Timichal 11:46, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh for the love of god, can we please remove this? We have a huge problem with YouTube links on en-wiki violating copyrights and this is a convenient end-run around the link-search feature. J.smith 17:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Sure, I removed it. MaxSem 13:46, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Linking to Flash:

This wiki is all about tutorials, examples, etc. about Flash programming.--68.100.182.44 01:45, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

This wiki has 13 articles so far, and there is a general way to link to all wikia sites I thought. I'd be inclined to suggest waiting till there is significant article growth. ++Lar: t/c 14:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Not done. MaxSem 10:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

tools.wikimedia.de

Hallo, I suggest to add

tools: -> http://tools.wikimedia.de/$1

On tools.wikipedia.de you'll find important tools for wikipedia. Please look at

First: for user it easier to have a short link. Second: My intention is to link some of them with images, which doesn't work with extern links at the time. Please leave commentary. Thanks in advance from Germany -- Jlorenz1 08:23, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Seems a good idea to me. Support. But the naming of tools doesn't quite conform to typical wiki convention, is that a problem? Absent any opposition I'll circle back and add it. ++Lar: t/c 22:33, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes please, and "tools:" is good to indicate that it is a Wiki-related website. --Farino 23:36, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

  Done ++Lar: t/c 14:08, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Great Lakes Wiki

I suggest

 • GreatLakesWiki: -> http://greatlakeswiki.org/index.php/$1 for the Great Lakes Wiki: Main Page...

I am an admin here (and there, as it so happens) and can add it directly, but strongly prefer consensus so I seek discussion first... it is a relatively new wiki. I do think that there may be significant potential for inbound linking from Wikipedia over time. ++Lar: t/c 22:13, 2 March 2007 (UTC) (PS I'd like to add it myself, if it makes sense, I need the practice :) ) ++Lar: t/c 22:26, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Done (there being no objection raised) ++Lar: t/c 14:08, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Literate Programs

I suggest

 • LiteratePrograms: -> http://en.literateprograms.org/$1 for the Literate Programs Wiki: Main Page

As above, this site has significant potential for inbound links from Wikipedia over time. It has programming language support so one is able to download code directly. For example [1] is a program to do Fibonacci numbers in java, or [2] an insertion sort in C. ++Lar: t/c 23:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Done (there being no objection raised) ++Lar: t/c 14:08, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Proposed removals

20% of the Interwiki_map Does Not Work!

If you pass the page through a link checker (necessarily stripping all the "$1" off the ends first) you'll find that over 20% of these Interwiki links don't work.

If you are an adminstrator for this page (or for any other wiki) and want to capitalize on my work, here's this Interwiki map pared down to working links. It's wiki formatted to match what's in Interwiki_map. Note: While each of these links turn up a page, I haven't confirmed that each address is in a correct format so that it will properly link to the article you want. -GoodSignal 03:36, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

They do work. You need to replace the $1 with an article title, which is what happens when these interwikis are used. The links are not meant to be clicked directly. Angela 18:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Good point. I understand the function of the $1. I removed the $1 assuming that most wiki's will redirect to the main page (or something). Using the Xenu link checker, the links I removed either came up with the status 'auth required', 'connection aborted', 'forbidden request', 'invalid path', 'no connection', 'no such host' or 'not found.' Upon closer look after reading your post, I discovered that the 'forbidden requsts' do indeed work. I'll remove my trimmed down list. -GoodSignal 02:44, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Wikia Projects

There are currently two ways to reach many wikia projects - perhaps it should be made policy to use Wikia:Projectname:Article?

List of Wikias with direct interwikis:

At the very least no more should be added, and maybe remove the not-oft used ones... WikiFur is probably one of the larger non-general wikis! --Kyevan 22:03, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

The WikiFur one has been used quite a lot, mostly for topics that are nowhere near notable in general terms to have a Wikipedia article now or in the foreseeable future, but for which more information is available on WikiFur. No sense in cluttering up Wikipedia with articles that are just going to get deleted (after a lot of angst!). GreenReaper 08:59, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Actually, with all the merging of articles into each other in Final Fantasy projects, the links to FF Wiki will be used more. Crazyswordsman 03:15, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
CentralWikia: should stay since that's what's at wikia.com, not just one of the wikis we host. I don't actually see a need to remove any of these. You risk breaking links in all Wikimedia projects. What is the advantage? Angela 16:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

CraftedbyCarol and VillageArts

Very old entries (http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Interwiki_map&diff=111733&oldid=111612), which don't lead to a working wiki, the VillageArts-Wiki even doesn't seem to exist anymore. -- 141.30.212.78 17:35, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Apparently, someone removed 'em without reporting here. MaxSem 10:40, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Nonexistent sites

I request removal of the interwikis for Shownotes, slskrex and Stockphotoss, on grounds that these sites do not exist. Note that one of them is a "parked" site that redirects to one of those generic commercial search page thingies. Radiant! 12:29, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

 • Likewise, I request removal of AcadWiki and AjaxXAB, which likewise do not work, and EditCount, which links to the old editcounter on enwiki which no longer works. Radiant! 14:16, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
 • And again, Annotation, BmpCN, Bryanskpedia, CheatsWiki and CityHall don't (or no longer) exist; ArchiveCompress and ArchiveStream refer to a part of archive.org that no longer exist and thus yield an error msg; and BrazilWiki is a defunct version of BrasilWiki. Request removal for all of them. Radiant! 15:43, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Done, all removed. BTW, I've found another dead link - StrikiWiki. Will remove it after second check several days from now. MaxSem 10:35, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

More nonexistent sites

Thank you for your help, Max. We're continuing to check the list; here's some other defunct sites: cPanelWiki, M-W, MbTest, MetaReciclagem, mjoo, MozWiki, MuWeb, MyTips, Nomad.

Also, Changemakers is a very small and inactive wiki containing a lot of spam, and is not a useful place to link to; and CmWiki is someone's personal wiki that has had no updates since June 2005. CreationMatters links to CmWiki as well, and CraftedByCarol is a personal wiki that's entirely empty.

Finally, MySpace should be removed for the same reason that we don't want links to YouTube. Radiant! 17:45, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

 • More defunct sites include DiveIntoOsx, DNDwiki (parked domain), DolphinWiki, DwellersWiki, and Echolink. EljWiki was abandoned in 2003. Also, EBWiki is a personal site and doesn't belong here. Radiant! 12:05, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Some rem. requests (1/15/07)

Narrow Scope
* WoWWiki [3] - Site dedicated to a single game, World Of Warcraft. - striking out request... popular & stable wiki. Consitered reliable source for WOW subjects. J.smith 01:54, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
 • WurmPedia [4] - Site is dedicated to a single game, Wurm Online
 • ZWiki [5] - User's guide for Zwiki wiki software
Sites down
 • WLWiki [6] - Looks like the wiki was removed from the server. supremepixels.net looks to be working just fine.
 • YpsiEyeball [7] - Site apears to be down

J.smith 23:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

What is wrong with having a narrow scope? There are dozens of pages about WoW on Wikipedia, so I imagine this is a useful interwiki link, both for WoW fans to use on their userpages, and as external links in articles. Removing interwikis breaks existing links, so should only be done as a last resort, not simply because the site doesn't have a wide scope. Angela 23:58, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
One of the requirements for innerwiki map is wide potenaial usage. If a wiki's scope is 1 game then it's potenial for use is limited to very few articles. (27 in cat:WoW) Also, I have checked 5 WoW pages includeing the main article and I don't find a single actual use... but what I do find is a bunch of uses of w:template:wowwiki. J.smith 01:36, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Aditionaly, the interwiki links are bad in that they compleatly bypass the external-link search tool. It makes tracking realy hard when it's over used. J.smith 01:52, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Done (only the sites down part of the request).

Requests for updates

RFC

rfc could be changed from the plain-text files on rfc-editor.org to some HTML representation, e.g. http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc$1.html.

 • Pro: better linking between RFCs; integrated search
 • Cons: Maybe not up to date for new RFCs (don't know…)

Thanks, Langec 11:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

The IETF now has its own HTMLization of RFCs at http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2822 etc. and of course they're always up to date. See also http://tools.ietf.org/inventory/reading-tools. --82.46.154.93 23:37, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
