Where to sit?

edit

I see there was some complaints with the WiFi last time, along with the temperature, which seems to happen when we sit by the entrance doors. The back doesn't have these problems, with the only major downside being that it is a little more squashed in. If people really don't like sitting near the entrance doors, a preferred seating location could be added to the meetup pages from now on. Any thoughts? Yes, how about..... look out for fellow Wikipedians? Gordo (talk) 07:23, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, they had the door open in the Summer, and it was very noisy. The staff cited fire regulations as a reason for keeping the door open. Gordo (talk) 07:25, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
People have missed us in the past when we have been at the back - so a prominent note is a good idea if that is where we will "officially" locate ourselves when possible from now on. In the Summer, the problems of sitting near the front are compounded by the staff insistence of keeping the door, allegedly due to fire regulations, more likely to make the pub more attractive to enter, which can make it cold and very noisy with all the traffic. Although I've only been twice, the back area seemed to work better. Edwardx (talk) 21:17, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is so much "swag" at the office that all we have to do it get a few mugs, stickers, etc and put them on the table. Also, I have sat with two others and spoken to Wikipedian, who ignored us twice. When we pinned him down, he thought we would be a bigger group, not just three of us!!! Yes, something to more easily identify us would particularly help newcomers. CT Cooper · talk 20:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, indeed! Gordo (talk) 08:38, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I was just passing through - might it be possible to stick an A4-sized bit of paper with the Wikipedia logo on, on the side of one of the tables that face the entrance, or on the back of one of the chairs, with something like "Wikimedia meet-up: beyond the bar in the corner", or something like that? The amount of people who'd gather there if you guys aren't sitting there would probably be minimal, for the same reasons we'd prefer not to sit there. I'm sure one of the staff wouldn't have a problem with it, and the idea of moving location within the pub probably wouldn't have even been entertained if the connection there wasn't so poor. Usually the only table or group of tables that we can all fit around are one of the groups near the door. We just need to make sure we have someone turn up early enough to bag a suitable table. WiFi has to be a secondary requirement after making sure we have enough space to not turn people away. As for logos on paper etc, I have a wikimedia logo on the lid of my netbook - that usually does the trick. WereSpielChequers (talk) 17:24, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Board has its second day of board meeting and we would hope to finish in time for a few of us to pop along. With massive discussion around governance review, Wikimania, QRPedia, ... no firm promises though. Cheers -- (talk) 15:19, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
