Control

edit

It might be useful to try to research and document who controls these accounts. Adambro 19:24, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I think a lot of the 'research' would simply entail direct messaging them on Twitter and asking --Dgultekin 23:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

It would be useful to put project and language/geography in two different columns to make it sortable and less confusing. Nemo 20:41, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

New logo at Wikivoyage

edit

Wikivoyage has a new logo, whe you have time it might be a good idea to update it at https://twitter.com/Wikivoyage , thanks! Nicolas1981 (talk) 05:55, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Totals

edit

Wow, these numbers are three years out-of-date. I guess this page is a low priority. Liz (talk) 02:02, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

What are three years? :) Please help update them. --Nemo 09:38, 15 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Theredmonkey is being so kind as to update many figures. Thanks! --Nemo 12:34, 26 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Update?

edit

Hi, so a while ago a friend made this list of social media handles and asked me to post them, but sadly I didn't manage to deliver. Anyone who'd like to look into this now? TYVM!!! Elitre (talk) 08:48, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

There isn't a single microblogging handle in that page. It only lists some Facebook pages for WLM and WLE, which could be added as new sections over there. Nemo 20:19, 29 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Separate Twitter and Mastodon

edit

I'd like to sort the microblogging list by followers, but it currently has Twitter and Mastodon together. Would we be able to either seperate Twitter and Mastodon, or create seperate follower fields? This week the new app Threads is launching which will fragment things again if Wikimedia chapters start using it.

I see that WM France is listed separately under Mastodon, but they are the only ones. Jimmyjrg (talk) 07:15, 5 July 2023 (UTC) (edited for clarity)Reply

The number of followers on Instagram Threads and on Twitter is largely meaningless as the act of following an account only produces a slight difference in the likelyhood that the recommender system will push one of your posts to you, so I don't think it's particularly useful to track in detail. I'd personally recommend to include only the order of magnitude of followers on the most meaningful account (for example, having 1000 followers on Mastodon is more significant than having 10000 followers on Twitter). I think it's interesting to see annual growth, and this can be used as a starting point to learn how other accounts are using these platforms for engagement. Jimmyjrg (talk) 00:12, 7 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
A more useful metric could be the number of posts. Nemo 13:37, 14 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's a good point. Mastodon does list the number of posts on a users page, but Twitter doesn't so each account holder would need to update their own stats. I agree follower counts are largely useless though given how many bots there are. Jimmyjrg (talk) 01:08, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Twitter shows the number of posts on every interface I know about, but if you can't find the figure on your preferred client you can always check https://nitter.net . Nemo 06:44, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, I hadn't seen that one. Jimmyjrg (talk) 06:57, 18 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Discontinued section

edit

At what point does something get moved to the Discontinued section? Most of the listing there seem to be pages that no longer exist, or Twitter accounts that have been inactive for the better part of a decade. But scrolling through the page, there are several deleted Twitter accounts that it seems would be appropriate to be moved to Discontinued. There are also a fair number of Twitter accounts that have become inactive within the last year, and I'm not sure at what point those would be considered to be "discontinued". - OdinintheNorth (talk) 19:20, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Instagram

edit

I don't believe Instagram is a microblogging platform, and have removed those listings from the page. I've copied the listings here for reference:

Domain for Bluesky

edit

Now that Bluesky has become a thing, is it worth setting up a Wikimedia-specific domain for project handles? Maybe using one of the existing domains like wikis.world? — ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · contribs · email · w:en) 22:32, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
