Confidentiality & Privacy | User protection
To make confidentiality and privacy work in many jurisdictions, there must be a true person or organisation known who did agree to be responsible for all actions operated from an account that has oversight rights. Users must be able to get information about the person linked to an account, like name, data of birth, nationality and official adress. In case a user's confidentiality and/or privacy rights have been bruised by an account, in most jurisdictions one can only start a courtcase when a true person can be informed by the court, that someone else did start a courtcase against him/her. The person linked to an account also has privacyrights and must go sure, private information will only be handed out to people with a legal interest. In this policy essential information is missing about the way the Foundation protects users who think their privacy rights have been bruised by a steward or oversighter. The proposal is, to add information on how the Foundation handles this situation. Thanks JustB EU (talk) 11:23, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- An Oversighter hides content that has been identified as private. The privacy violation is by the person who posted the information that required oversight, not by the Oversighter who hid it. Most privacy actions would be against the individual editors, not the Oversighter. The only time I can see that an Oversighter would be violating privacy is if they used their rights to view previously hidden information and then disseminated it. - In all cases when one wants to know personal information about a Wikimedia editor for legal reasons you will need to contact the Wikimedia Foundation legal team. Foundation:Requests for user information procedures & guidelines contains all the relevant information. Note this is governed by the Privacy policy not the Oversight policy. Oversight for removing spam
Here at MediaWiki.org, we have a lot of spam that happens though Flow and one of the major issues with it is its lack of revision-deletion in that it is simply not possible for a regular admin to hide the offending title from RC (which many spam title contain). Hence my question is whether oversight can be used to do this (assuming a pair of them can be elected), since the main page does not mention spam as a use-case. Thanks in advance.
