data in the page view shows 2 years before the page was actually published

Hi, im looking into a page in hebrew, I see in its information that the page was created first at may 2017, but the data I get when I check number of entries to the page shows from 2015? i tried to use Wikimedia REST API but I receive that the data for this page but I get : The date(s) you used are valid, but we either do not have data for those date(s), or the project you asked for is not loaded yet. Please check https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/?doc for more information. please advice thanks Tallevy2 (talk) 14:28, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

@Tallevy2 Can you please provide a link, please? I'm going to guess you're viewing "all time" data for the page. In Pageviews Analysis, this means everything since July 2015 – when the new pageviews system was introduced. We could and probably should only show dates since the article was created, but it's possible for a nonexistent page or deleted page to have pageviews too, so we don't make that assumption. It is also a minor performance improvement, since we'd otherwise have to first check when the article was created before querying the Pageviews API. As for querying the REST API directly, the 404 you got is a Gotcha. In this case it means there's no data for that date range (though there could have been, even though the article didn't exist at that time). Hopefully that makes sense. Hi @MusikAnimal (WMF)thanks for the response, i was looking at this page https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%93%D7%95%D7%96%D7%94.
i think that the data i recieve in pageviews includes an old page https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%93%D7%95%D7%96%D7%95%D7%AA_%D7%A1%D7%95%D7%9B%D7%9A that shared the same page id #57119 -am i right?
thanks Tallevy2 (talk) 09:01, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tallevy2 Pageviews go by title, not by page ID. I can see there is a deleted history for he:מדוזה going back to 2004, so there was an older version of the article that is not publicly visible in the revision history. But again, even if a page doesn't exist at all and never did exist, it can still have pageviews. The API pipeline just looks at request logs. It has no knowledge of whether or not the page actually exists. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 21:07, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Rating of the most viewed Wikipedias

As far as I understand, the problem of automatic arranging wikipedias by number of views per month still is not resolved.

Now, to get the rating, one should browse through 300+ wikipedias manually :( --Perohanych (talk) 12:25, 5 January 2022 (UTC)

Not showing yesterday's count!

Repair it. 110.44.120.207 08:09, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

I'm assuming the pageviews pipeline was slow that day and it is resolved now. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 04:28, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi everyone. We are aware there is slowness to the tool right now and are investigating. Thanks, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 04:28, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

We have moved to VPS at https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/ and everything seem to be really fast now. Yay! Thanks for your patience, everyone, and apologies for the disruption. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 20:42, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Cat & Dog

Hello

I am using Windows 10 Pro (21h2, build 19044.1526) with Firefox 97.0.1 (64 bits), both up to date at the time of writing, and I have a 100MB/s internet connection with Orange (France).

Accessing the tool from a link given on en:Wikipedia:Le Bistro/24 February 2022#Wikipedia's Audience (https://pageviews.toolforge.org/ which automatically redirects to https://pageviews.toolforge.org/?project=en.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&range=latest-20&pages=Cat%7CDog), I encountered a 10-15 second lag (with the circle spinning in the middle of the window), and then the same lag again when unchecking "Dog".

However, this problem doesn't seem to happen every time.

I wonder if there is any point in showing results for "Cat" and "Dog" on wp.en, when users are clearly not coming for these pages. It clearly helps to see how the tool works, but these server requests are useless and waste time and computing power every time the page is accessed. Not to mention the fact that everyone will have to delete these two pages before searching (unless of course they are specifically looking for the "Cat" and "Dog" pages on wp.en...).

See #Pageviews / Topviews much slower to load than normal above. We've got a solution coming soon. "Cat" and "Dog" being there by default has nothing to do with the slowness. It's supposed to load more or less instantly. Note also you can use the "✕ Clear" link above the Pages input to clear all pages, and this also moves your cursor to the input field. OK MusikAnimal (WMF), thanks. Şÿℵדαχ₮ɘɼɾ๏ʁ 15:44, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

This does not seem to be related to XTools. Please post to the Wikipedia article's talk page. ~~~~

This isn't XTools, but you're correct the report is unrelated to Pageviews Analysis. I'm not sure why so many people end up here reporting content issues. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 20:29, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

new WMCloud hosting broken on every page

Clicking the "pageviews" link from every article's "view history" tab just brings you to a broken table on WMCloud.org that displays unrelated/broken tables from 2006 (example) - please fix! TheNewMinistry (talk) 01:00, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

If you are using an ad blocker, this might be the cause: https://github.com/easylist/easylist/pull/11049 . Until it gets fixed, a temporary workaround might be disabling it for pageviews.wmcloud.org. whym (talk) 03:57, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Page language in permalink?

Is it possible to set the interface language through the URL? It works well for me to change the interface in the top-right corner, but it doesn't seem to change the URL. I would like to create a URL that takes the viewer to a page in a specific language. (I couldn't find anything for this on the page for URL structure.) Ainali talkcontributions 14:15, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

@Ainali You can use ?uselang= just like the wiki. I.e. https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/?uselang=de. I'll get this added this to the URL Structure page. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 19:53, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Massviews for Telugu categories broken

w:te:వర్గం:ప్రకాశం జిల్లా గ్రామాలు gives url1 which when used in massviews gives 'No data found.' Forw:te:వర్గం:ప్రకాశం జిల్లా, url2 and it works. The issue needs resolution as it will be useful to understand the popularity of pages in a category.--Arjunaraoc (talk) 17:19, 11 March 2022 (UTC)

I see okey this. ✍️ Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 17:49, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
@Dušan Kreheľ, the link you gave is for pageviews. I am referring to getting the pageviews of all articles in a category. This bug is similar to Talk:Pageviews_Analysis/Archives/2021/1#Massviews_-_&_(%2526_in_URL). Arjunaraoc (talk) 03:36, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Comment The user requst is the bug report. Error is when none page is in the category, so the category massviews return error. The right is write the user is about the none pages in the category (and none pageviews) and too to inform about none subcategory of category in massviews. Or the second way (better) is to edit the Pageview code to work with the subcategory. ✍️ Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 09:16, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

@Arjunaraoc @Dušan Kreheľ There's a "Include all subcategories" option. You would need to use that for w:te:వర్గం:ప్రకాశం జిల్లా గ్రామాలు since it contains only subcategories. [2] is a working link. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 19:31, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal (WMF): Ok, so only the one bug – empty category is only the empty category, not the error of pageviews. ✍️ Dušan Kreheľ (talk) 19:37, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Indeed, the messaging could be improved, but "No data found" is still accurate. In this case, no data was found when querying for category members of w:te:వర్గం:ప్రకాశం జిల్లా గ్రామాలు. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 19:56, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal (WMF), @Dušan Kreheľ Thanks for clarification. I have not regularly used category views, so got misled easily by the uuencoded url of Telugu category url and lack of data leading to the thought something is wrong with the tool. I agree that improved messaging will help new users a lot. It will be helpful to show uudecoded url against the category in the user interface. -- Arjunaraoc (talk) 23:37, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

Pageviews broken in Opera Mobile

I use the latest version of Opera browser in Android 10 smartphone. Pageviews links, for example [3], is broken when viewed from Opera. It seems to display raw html page without any CSS. However the same link works fine in Chrome Mobile and in desktop browsers. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 15:36, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
