Talk:Toolserver/Introduction
I started this to try to be a gentle introduction to the toolserver, to try to answer various questions I've seen asked several times. Hopefully this can remain a short, not-too-technical description of the toolserver. --Interiot 03:07, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- The different 'lag' on en.wiki: is that due to updating from an offline dump? Might be worth clarifying here, or linking to someplace else that discusses this. Alai 21:55, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- Observation suggests that my initial guess is in fact wrong. At any rate, I'd still be interested in more details. Alai 10:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- enwiki is on a different master database server from the others, and MySQL only supports single-master replication, meaning it can't replicate both enwiki and the other wikis (it has a feature called 'dual-master replication', but this is something entirely different). DaB has written a tool to replicate another database, but it's not currently doing enwiki--i believe he's going to test it on the yaseo (Asian) wikis first, to make sure it works properly. river.
- Ah-hah. Thanks, that both casts something of a light, and offers some hope for future synch-up. Alai 18:13, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Most wikis
edit"A few Wikimedia wikis (namely the Japanese, Korean, Thai and Malaysian Wikipedias) are physically located elsewhere, and their data are currently unavailable to toolserver tools. " Looking at the replag graphs, this seems to have changed? Rich Farmbrough 12:48 24 May 2006 (UTC).
Wikipedia toolserver copy
editI've been leaving plaintive notes on the CatScan talk page, the Tools talk page, you name it. I could really use CatScan if the toolserver copy of the English Wikipedia were fixed. Any idea when/if this might happen? In the meantime, is there any other tool that can do searches like CatScan? Thanks. Her Pegship 20:33, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
