editI want translate pages on metawiki. Where i get the links to not translated pages? I haven't problem with transtate www.mediawiki.org (I:http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Woytecr)-with template "languages". Can you/we add the template in metawiki? --Woytecr 19:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Draft of section on how to translate
editI have drafted some basic step-by-step instructions on how to translate (above). I have drafted them based on my experience of trying to work out how to do a translation on meta for the fundraising drive. I spent hours trying to work out the simplest things, so even though some of the things here should be obvious, they were not at all obvious to me. Could somebody who knows how the system works please check that what I have said is true. Where I have put ????? I have no idea how it works and have just taken a wild guess to get the ball rolling. When this has been checked and completed I thought it could be put on the FAQ page. Is it then possible to put a link to the FAQ page from the original text pages – perhaps as part of the translation status box? Lloffiwr 18:11, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- I made a change, we normally do not have groups of languages; those core messages are an exception. I also made some other minor changes, including removing parts that we do not use anymore. - Thank you Lloffiwr for your nice documenting. Nice start. How about putting it on the FAQ page and get more (real) feedback? It seems nice to me but I've been too much soaked in this current system and may fail see some unanswered points, if exist. --Aphaia 06:06, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you both for your kind comments and amendments to the draft. Following your encouragement I have moved the draft to the FAQ page itself. However, I am anxious that the pages which have the translation status boxes carry a link to the FAQ page (one of the problems I had was finding the translation FAQ page in the first place). Written Language Barriers Partially to Mostly Overcome With Traslation Systems

Language barrier in Wikipedia or anywhere in the world of communication can be overcome atleast for the written media through autotranslation; link for this is given given here to convert any of languages listed in the program to another; conversion is automatic and on-the-fly. The translation may not be linguistically accurate in usage or contextual meaning.

With program systems such as above, it seems a Wikipedia page or any written text can be traslated to another language on the list in the programs or similar program as may come to light. A high level discussion is needed that the Wikipedia main page should include availabilty of Auto-Translation, though says distinctly that that page is only for the content of that page. Above matter, actually pertains to Wikipedia opening page with the globe and multiple languages of the world shown, but has no discussion facility on that page. This is the page where some form of this matter can be incorporated and will receive wider exposure of availabilty of Auto-Translation Systems. I will attempt to insert the same on the Main page also; this one is from a beginner with above link deleted twice from the External Links on Air France 447 page where I had established a translation using the the first Translation system link #1 above to translate the Brazilian Air Force Portal with lot of information on the progress of accident investigation. Fundraising - localisation of pages on regional chapters.
editI have added a draft note to translators on the translation FAQ, about localising donation pages on regional chapters. I have also added a link to the FAQ on to the fundraising 2010 translation hub. I am a translator living within the UK and not a member of the fundraising team. I have assumed that the situation is the same on all chapters as it is on the Wikimedia UK chapter. I would be grateful if somebody who knows how the system works could check that what I have said is correct for all chapters. I'm sure there was an explanation about the fundraising agreements with chapters somewhere on the fundraising 2010 pages, but I can't find it anywhere. It would also be good to explain how the Wikimedia chapters can be contacted regarding localisation of fundraiser pages. Links to contact pages on individual Wikimedia chapters would also be useful.
