Incubator
editPerhaps it's just a formality, but I'll ask it anyway: do articles in the Wikimedia Incubator count as well? I'm asking this, because technically these language editions do not have their own Wikipedia domain yet, even though they are ultimately intended to get one. IJzeren Jan (talk) 12:05, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for your question!
- Yes, sure, we encourage our participants to translate in as many languages as possible. OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk) 16:13, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- @OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) Thank you!
- Now that I think of it, I have a few questions about the scoring system:
- One of the examples says: "If you add 3,900 bytes of content to an existing article, you get 6 points: 4 for the size and 2 for improvement." Since one receives 1 point for each 1000 bytes, shouldn't this be: 3 for the size and 2 for improvement?
- I would recommend you to be a bit more specific about what it means to "improve" an article. Theoretically, I could improve it by correcting a typo, or by updating the number of inhabitants of some village, or by adding a single sentence. But none of these would warrant 2 points, would they?
- Cheers, IJzeren Jan (talk) 14:46, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
- 1. You are right that 3,900 bytes would mathematically be 3.9 points based on the "1 point per 1,000 bytes" rule. However, when calculating points, we use standard rounding (mathematical rounding). That means 3.9 rounds up to 4. So in this case, 3,900 bytes earns 4 points for size.
- 2. That's a great point, thank you! We've actually already updated the page to clarify what qualifies as an "improvement." Hopefully, it's now clearer what kind of edits are considered substantial enough to earn the 2 points. OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk) 20:22, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
Suggestions
editYesterday, I've taken a peek at the lists of suggested articles (and incidentally removed doublets). May I suggest a few additions? I don't know if I am at liberty to add them myself, especially since I plan to participate myself again this year, so let me at least ask:
- Crucial
- Volodymyr Vynnychenko (Q2494143) (not including him is a mortal sin of omission IMO!)
- Cossacks (Q47805)
- Music
- Levko Revutsky (Q596947)
- Kobzar (Q2330480))
- Bandura (Q262414)
- Literature
- Ivan Kotliarevskyi (Q455246)
- Sixtiers (Q4523373)
- Volodymyr Sosyura (Q2623762)
- Ivan Drach (Q2632284)
- Dmytro Pavlychko (Q691471)
- Maksym Rylsky (Q2638198)
- General
- Kievan Rus' (Q1108445)
- Ukrainian alphabet (Q1098595)
- Ukrainian Latin alphabet (Q2322215)
- Romanization of Ukrainian (Q2505327)
- Mykola Skrypnyk (Q2422261)
- Leonid Kravchuk (Q189732)
- Volodymyr Zelenskyy (Q3874799)
Furthermore, I'd like to make one additional remark. Smaller Wikipedias often have very little about Ukraine, and whatever they have is often very short. You'll probably agree that it would be strange to write an article about the Drama Theatre in Kharkiv if there isn't even an article about Kharkiv itself, or even about Ukraine. Wouldn't it be an idea to add at least Ukraine and a number of major cities (Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr etc.) to the list? IJzeren Jan (talk) 11:02, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your suggestions and for your interest in the campaign! We're still in the process of finalizing the list of suggested articles this week, so the current version is not yet complete — we're actively working on it.
- You're absolutely right that articles like "Ukraine" or major cities are important. However, many of the ones you mentioned already have a large number of translations and were covered well in previous years. That's why we’re currently focusing on adding articles that are still missing translations in many Wikipedias or are underdeveloped.
- That said, we have added most of your suggested articles to the list. Thank you again for your thoughtful input! OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk) 20:28, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- You're most welcome, it's a pleasure! IJzeren Jan (talk) 21:00, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Are articles written on Wikipedia (mainly Uzbek Wikipedia) also taken into account? What do you need to participate? Thanks. Nektiring0978 (talk) 09:05, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Nektiring0978 Every article written about Ukrainian culture counts. Don't forget to add your contribution to the list of participants OlesiaLukaniuk (WMUA) (talk) 17:55, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Scorring
editHello, I want to ask about scorring if I create new translation with 9,780 bytes how to calculate this scorring ? Is it that just only 10 points or 9 points ? Ariandi Lie Talk with me 03:06, 20 April 2025 (UTC)
