• SIMILE Timeline could be used to represent these facts visually. It's under the BSD License, so I'm not sure if it's compatible with the GFDL. It sure looks nicer than our EasyTimeline extension, though. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 03:01, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

• BSD licenced material can be made GPL or any other, if it is missing "the third original clause" that request publicity in copies or derivatives. GPL can't, obviously, be taken to a BSD-like licence.

Wikisyntax

I'm a big fan of XML but you won't get it in Wikisyntax.

Instead of

try something like

• Well, I can tell you right now that the EasyTimeline project is really interesting, but it's just a format for displaying timeline info. What I'm thinking of here is a semantic-specific design.

I mean, I want to be able to put all the data sort of database-like, and then anyone can implement a viewer software. Shouldn't be that difficult.

• About the Grand Unified Timeline of Human History... I think it has the starting point wrong. These people are trying to build something from scratch to finish all at once. What I propose to do is to build it JUST LIKE Wikipedia, i.e. building from the ground up, giving everything to the user at any moment.

Anyone can tell me if it's useless to think of XML for this project? Should I use some kind of wiki format (wikisyntax) instead? I don't have a clue of wikisyntax. Anyone wants to help?

I added a date range example in the content page. I should add the proper syntax to the DTD, but I don't know if it's going to be completely useless because wikimedia projects work only with wikimedia syntax and/or html.

Timeline of US presidents, with a twist...

Hi there,

I am willing to help you out if there is something I can do for you guys let me know. I made this Flash program where people can play with the timeline of the Presidents of the US along its history all the way from Washington to Bush's re-election in 2004. The program I made is free fro download and comes with another little game-like twist, or rather two:

1) As you click on the buttons "Next" or "Back" from election to election, you can see the winning president, but you also see the losing candidate and even which states voted for the winner and the loser. THis also allows you to see WHEN exactly some of the states began participating in the history of the US as such. For example, Louisiana was part of the electoral vote even before Alabama was, creating a visual "gap" in the map!

2) The other thing you can do with my little donaton is play your OWN electoral college to see how many electoral votes a candidate could win in 2008. Click on any state to toggle its positio from red to blue to back to neutral (or "too close to call") and have fun with it...

Confusion
