I'll be honest, I like the idea 💡, it’s very respectful and would be a great place for people to deal with their grief, however... (1) it would be better fit for Wikia, if only (2) it wasn't literally the worst place to vandalise, and (3) could cause hella legal mess and might be fought by those “left behind”. I will say that I outright support the idea ✅ , but there are simply too many issues that need to be addressed.
How to stop 🤚🏻 the trolls:
Well, as an internet troll I don't like “routing against my own team” but in this case I am morally obliged, instead of being open and free it could be a closed “submission-only” wiki where people can place in submissions, whether or not these are done anonymously or need additional documents is to be debated, but this however brings me to the next point...
Hoaxes:
Unfortunately there are people that would use this site to spread hoaxes of people having died, this is beyond acceptable, hoaxes are already the worst thing about Wikipedia content itself, let alone for a WikiObituary.
Celebrities:
I expect a thousand and one Elvis Presley memorials on the first day alone, maybe a million Michael Jackson memorials in the first year, every aficionado would want their own unique memorial.
Even if these things are effectively combated... :
People would still sue, just think about it, two brothers love 💘 their father dearly, one wants their father to be forgotten completely and the other to be memorialised forever, if the former wins in court and a court order would demand the page to be taken down both the Wikimedia Foundation and the brother would be in trouble... And that’s not including all the court cases started because of hoaxes, or maybe incorrect information in other cases.
It could work if...
It was only for pets 🐱💻, it could be the most depressing project of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association. 😅
