edit

September is not far away, and I would like to know more so I can set up a branch of this event on the Simple English Wikipedia. The rules clearly show which articles are eligible but not much else. What do the participants do, and how are their actions counted? What do the organizer and jury members do and what are their responsibilities? Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:23, 24 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @Darkfrog24,
  1. First you need to create a page in project namespace like this page, You can copy the meta wiki page if you want.
  2. Here the participants will create article according to the rules mentioned.
  3. The organizers will oversee the overall aspect of competition and coordinate with international team
  4. The judges will review articles submitted by participants and give points. This requires use Fountain Tool
You can feel free to ask have any more questions, Regards --MdsShakil (talk) 05:59, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fountain

edit

Okay, I think I've got us squared away in Fountain. Do the contestants enter their work or do the jurors? Or do the contestants put a tag of some kind in their edit summaries or articles? Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:56, 27 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@MdsShakil: or anyone available: I believe I filled out the form in Fountain to create the Simple English Wikipedia's Fountain Page, but I am not sure it worked. Does it require approval from someone else? Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:17, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24 If you created the page with appropriate information, ask an Simple administrator to approve it. For more information please see Admin approval process --MdsShakil (talk) 19:27, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I will do just that. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:29, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
And we're up and running! Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:00, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Article Title Clarification

edit

Hi @MdsShakil: Shall we write Actress, women Cricketers under the theme of women biographies. Sridhar G (talk) 05:37, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello@Sridhar G,
Actress
  • We are not encouraging to create actresses biographies as it is less relevant to our theme this time and enough articles have already been created. But if an actress is significant in a feminist movement or any similar organization, her biography can be added.
Cricketers
  • Biographies of women cricketers can be written as the issue is currently associated with the feminist movement!
However, give more importance to issues related to feminism than writing a biography. Regards --MdsShakil (talk) 16:54, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Because this issues rose last time too. Thanks for your clarification. Sridhar G (talk) 09:59, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fountain issue

edit

Hi @MdsShakil: ta.fountain doesn't accept expanded article which was expanded on sep 2, 2021. it shows //The article was created at 06/08/2014 5:18 AM// . Please fix this. Thanks Sridhar G (talk) 19:04, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Sridhar G: There was some misinformation on the contest rules page. In this edition we will only accept new articles. However, if someone has already (September 1, 2021) expanded, you can accept his article. We've modified the rules page and request you to follow it in all subsequent works. Aft, we apologize for the mistake! By the way, we have already informed AntanO about the matter. -- Aishik Rehman (talk) 22:56, 1 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

What would you say that giving Barnstars right now for participants who already created valid (at least) 4 articles or shall we wait until final stage? --AntanO 12:35, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Have you already created Barnstar? --AntanO 12:37, 5 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Aishik Rehman --MdsShakil (talk) 12:51, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@AntanO: Sorry for the late response. All certificates, barnstars, gift vouchers will be issued in phases after the final results are announced. I think we should wait until then. Aishik Rehman (talk) 15:19, 6 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fountain error message

edit

Hi all. Does anyone else get the error message "'TypeError: RuleMessages[rule.type] is not a function' while saving the mark for '[article name here]'"? [1] Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:24, 9 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Darkfrog24 Maybe you did not build fountain settings properly. You can ask a simple Sysop to fix the problem --MdsShakil (talk) 08:53, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Also, please keep the mark open so that everyone can see --MdsShakil (talk) 08:59, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
"Keep the mark open"? Do you mean you don't want us to mark/judge/grade articles until after September 30? Darkfrog24 (talk) 13:04, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24 No, I didn't mean it. I mean after reviewing articles whether you are giving marks or not is not seen in Simple Fountain (I can't see) as seen in bn Fountain --MdsShakil (talk) 18:18, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

নিবন্ধ সংশোধনের সুযোগ প্রদান প্রসঙ্গে

edit

এই বিষয়টি জানানোর পর ওনি বলেছেন, "I have already conveyed my opinion. You may go anywhere to lodge complains against me. I will not talk any more on this matter." তাই আমি এই বিষয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক দলের দৃষ্টি আকর্ষণ করছি। ≈ MS Sakib  «TalK» 07:55, 11 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

বিষয়টি নিয়ে আলোচনা   Doing... রয়েছে, শ্রীঘ্রই প্রতিক্রিয়া জানানো হবে --MdsShakil (talk) 08:56, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
It is found that my name along with Chiring Chandan, one of the jury members of WLWSA 2021, Assamese (as) Wikipedia, are mentioned in this message. But this message is probably written in Bengali (I guess) and as we have no concern with this language, would anyone please translate the message into English? Babulbaishya (talk) 15:56, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Babulbaishya: Recently, as part of this competition, I translated the article “মধুমিতা ৰাউত” on Assamese Wikipedia. At the time of submission of the article, it was found that there were 5 words less ( 295 words) than the number of words specified in this competition. But the fountain did not interrupt at the time of submission. Assamese reviewers Chiring Chandan and Babulbaishya did not accept the article as there were 5 words less. However, the first one complained of having "Machine translation" in a paragraph of the article. None of them even mentioned on my talk page about not accepting the article. When I noticed it in the fountain, I solved all the problems. Now there are 300+ words. Although two reviewers were informed of the correction, the first one did not respond. The other, Babulbaishya, said on his talk page, "Articles once judged, cannot be reverted." But is there any such rule? I have been working in Bangla Wikipedia for a long time. There is an opportunity to correct a article in any competition. The same is happening in the ongoing competition. After reporting this, He said, "I have already conveyed my opinion. You may go anywhere to lodge complains against me. I will not talk any more on this matter." So I'm drawing the attention of the international team to this.MS Sakib  «TalK» 19:42, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

diifference in marks

edit

Hi @Aishik Rehman and MdsShakil: in ta.wiki there was a difference between number of submitted articles and marks. as of 12-09-2021 we submitted 370 articles in total (rejected articles included) but the tool shows 390 marks. Each article has one mark even two judges accept the same , the tool gives one mark. Let me know the reason. Thanks. Sridhar G (talk) 15:10, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Sridhar G This is because multiple jurry member accepted one article. It's not a big problem, it won't affect the results --MdsShakil (talk) 16:16, 12 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Are jurors allowed to help?

edit

If I go into the article and clean it up or fix mistakes, is it still eligible as a contest entry?

On the Simple English Wikipedia, the contestants have been choosing excellent things to write about, but they are all very similar to the Regular English Wikipedia. Am I allowed to go in and finish the translation from regular to simple English? Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:35, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Darkfrog24 Yes, you can. We do the same in bengali if necessary --MdsShakil (talk) 18:28, 13 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

More fountain issues.

We're having a problem. One of the contestants, @Prajjwal3959: marked some articles with the template but they still haven't shown up in Fountain. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:56, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rejected article has been improved

edit

Once an article has been improved, how do I go into Fountain and change its mark? Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:48, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Darkfrog24
  1. Goto fountain "Judge"
  2. Click ▶️
  3. find target articles and change mark
MdsShakil (talk) 13:54, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
When I click on "judge," the name of an unmarked article appears at the top. Clicking on the > in the top left corner only changes it to a downward-facing mark, but nothing else changes. When I hit "skip [to the next article]" in the bottom right corner, it only takes me to unmarked articles. Throughout all of this, most of the screen is full of slowly moving diagonal stripes. Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:45, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24 Don't see the list of articles when you click on the icon ( >) on the left corner? --MdsShakil (talk) 16:01, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
The > icon next to an author's name? Yes. But then I don't see any way to change its mark. Clicking on the > to the left of contestant Ferien creates a menu with Ferien's five entered articles, but the only thing to click on is the article names, and that just takes me to Simple to view the article. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:27, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
Can you email me? --MdsShakil (talk) 05:37, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Deadlines for submission and improvement

edit

I have a contestant on Simple who is putting a lot of work into improving contest entries that were initially marked below-standards. This person wants to know whether a contest entry counts if it is submitted before the end of September 30 but only improved to the point of acceptability sometime after that. I said no, that after September 30, the only prize they get is the satisfaction of improving the article for the readers, but I also told them I'd check over here to be sure. Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:52, 26 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

MdsShakil Could you please tell me about these? I want to know about it. Thanks! Haoreima (talk) 14:09, 27 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

objection raised

edit

Tamil Wikipedia members have put forward a request to the Organisers of the Wiki Loves Women South Asia-2021

The title and purpose of the competition is related to South Asia. (Wiki Loves Women South Asia is an article writing contest to improve gender gap in Wikipedia and create the related articles about South Asian Women) .

But Bengali Wikipedians wrote and allow many feminist articles related to countries other than South Asia.

Dear Organisers of this project,

kindly look in to this subject before announcing the results.--கி.மூர்த்தி (talk) 16:07, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @கி.மூர்த்தி: I am sorry to say, i disagree. Introduction isn't rules. Please read Wiki Loves Women South Asia 2021/Rules#Rules of the contest. Rules doesn't say you must create article related to south asia. Rules says: "The article should be within gender discrimination, feminism, women's empowerment and related issues." Rules should be changed before the contest, not after the contest. Otherwise there is no point having a rules. It would be really bad decision if organisers decide to change the rule now, 6 days after finishing the contest. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 21:23, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Of course, rules doesn't say must create article related to south asia. Vice versa the same rule do not say "create article related to non south asia". I think we shouldn't have highlighted the theme This year WLW South Asia will focus on women's empowerment in the South Asian context. Actually, it is not clear to the direction as it conflicts like theme vs rule vs project. BTW, no need to change the rule or result. However, personally I feel that I am not a good organizer and jury to this contest, especially to the ta.wiki community. --AntanO 18:41, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Imagine you worked hard for one month, you did not violate any contest rule, but after 6-7 days of contest ending, organizer told you we will penalize you for something which isn't even in the rule. It is not right, I obiasly will feel bad. If this objection was raised even during the contest, i would have understand. Agree that "no need to change the rule or result", not just for bnwiki, for any wiki as it is not ok to change the rule after end of any contest. The way forward is not penalizing participant at the end of contest for something which isn't even in the rules. The way forward is that, in the future make sure we have more clear rules. --আফতাবুজ্জামান (talk) 21:19, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I remember asking about this when setting up the page for the Simple English Wikipedia, but I can't find the talk page where I asked right now. The issue arose: "Wait, so I could even write about an English suffragette?" "Yes, you can write about feminism in England if you want. It is for south Asians to read, but it doesn't have to be about south Asia." In fact, we had contestants write about English feminists and our best choice was probably simple:First-wave feminism, though most of our entries were about Asia in some way.
If next year's contest has a rule saying "Only write about south Asian subjects," I don't object. But the contestants on Simple followed the "written for South Asians, not necessarily about South Asians" rule. Darkfrog24 (talk) 22:19, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

...award?

edit

I just finished judging the last of the entries for the Simple English Wikipedia. I now see that the "Award" button works! So do I just number the top finishers 1, 2, 3 by number of successful articles made or something else? I am asking because, while Fountain lets me judge articles, it does not let me go back and change things later. I want to get it right the first time.

Also, will we be pinged when the participant barnstars are ready? Everyone at Simple worked so hard and I am looking forward to recognizing them for it. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:41, 15 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Changing marks in Fountain

edit

A few of the contestants on SEWP have made last-minute improvements to some of their entries. I would like to change the marks in fountain from "not accepted" to "accepted." I do not see any way in Fountain to do this. Clicking on the little down arrow in the top left corner of the screen does not do anything for me. I must report that when marking an article initially, I always get an error message, but the system still accepts the mark. Darkfrog24 (talk) 14:26, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Darkfrog24 can you please say an Simple Sysop for add me as a jury member, I want to take a closer look --MdsShakil (talk) 15:17, 26 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I believe the article simple:Ima Keithel has been improved enough to pass, so this breaks the tie for third place. I will name the winners today. Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:12, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
Okay, it looks like Fountain doesn't allow me to simply type in the names of the winners... How do you recommend I award the prizes? Right now we have a clear winner for first, a clear winner for second, and two names for third, but one of those two people improved an article and broke the tie. Darkfrog24 (talk) 15:14, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24 If you believe it has been improved enough, accept and count it. I think simple fountain face server site error, i trying to contact Le Loy, but he is not available right now. You can also putup a note about this in simple project talk page --MdsShakil (talk) 18:13, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
I can accept it in my own mind, but I can't accept it through Fountain right now or name the winners. I know you and Aishik Rehman want the winners named no later than tomorrow, October 30. Darkfrog24 (talk) 19:49, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Darkfrog24 I know about the fountain error and as I said above, you can count this. If the fountain is fixed, then it can be added. --MdsShakil (talk) 20:04, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I'll hold off on naming the winners until tomorrow, but I'll name them no later than tomorrow. Darkfrog24 (talk) 20:10, 29 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dubious article counts

edit

We could see some editor's article count is more than 100, 200, 300. The contest was a held in a timeline for a month and it is obviously impossible for any individual to create somany articles in such time period. If it is manchine translated, quality need to be checked thoroughly, which is again doubtfull in that timeline. If they had kept the articles prepared sighting the compition would be announced, then it is not at all a good Wiki spirit and it may be conflict of interest also. Organisers need to look in to this seriously. --Vikas Hegde (talk) 09:44, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

This does sound like it deserves a look. However, it is possible for someone fluent in two languages to translate ten articles each day if they are not too long. It may just be someone who was willing to dedicate a lot of time to the contest. Darkfrog24 (talk) 16:53, 11 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for expressing your concern. I think it's possible for an editor to create 300+ articles in a month. (If those are translated) Each article has reviewed by one or multiple reviewers, (who are experienced users of the community) so I think there is no problem with quality. -- MdsShakil (talk) 16:51, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

What is meant by Native Wikipedia

edit

@MdsShakil, Aishik Rehman, and Darkfrog24: When I try to fill up the form, I saw a detail named "Native Wikipedia" ("Home Wikipedia")! Is it the Wikipedia where I am native/mostly active or is it the Wikipedia where I took part of the very contest? I am always active in Manipuri Wikipedia (AKA. Meitei wikipedia) but I took part of the contest in Simple English Wikipedia! So, which one shall I write in the form? Haoreima (talk) 13:14, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Haoreima Enter the name of the project you participated --MdsShakil (talk) 13:35, 22 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Barnstars and banners

edit

@MdsShakil and Aishik Rehman: I have had a contestant ask when the barnstars will be awarded. Should I go ahead and make some myself instead?

Also, I would like to award barnstars to everyone who created articles for the contest, even if they were not eligible articles (i.e. someone who writes five articles but only earns two points gets a participant star). Darkfrog24 (talk) 12:39, 28 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I've made a serviceable participation barnstar, but I think the winner barnstar should be a little fancier. Perhaps a crown on the lady's head: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Darkfrog24/Sandbox&oldid=22403660 Darkfrog24 (talk) 23:39, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Darkfrog24 I apologize for being too late to answer you. Contestants can be rewarded with any Barnstar you make. However, we have created a SAMPLE BARNSTAR that is better to use (You can also customize it as you like). --Aishik Rehman (talk) 15:55, 25 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Translated and awarded as per Barnstars for participants creating at least 4 articles. --AntanO 21:22, 26 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hey, one of the paritcipants said that the barnstar "is not closed" and that this is causing problems. Do we have any fixes? Darkfrog24 (talk) 03:04, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, just figured out you can add two </div> tags and it should work. Elytrian (talk) 03:06, 6 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Clarification of all ambiguities regarding Gift Vouchers

edit

@Balu1967, Vikashegde, Sridhar G, ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿ and கி.மூர்த்தி: Hello everyone, we sent the gift vouchers to most of the Indian contestants on April 11 this year. You are complaining that you have not received it for whatever reason. I guess the mail got posted in your spam or junk mailbox which got deleted after some time. I am quite surprised to see your messages one after another. Anyway, Shakil forwarded the mails to you guys, hopefully the problem is resolved. I hope you will be more aware of these issues in the future, otherwise this kind of repeated email forwarding destroys the security of gift vouchers. Thank you all. -- Aishik Rehman (talk) 13:48, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@User:Aishik Rehman Thank u sir. Now I got gift voucher and redeemed--Balu1967 (talk) 05:34, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
