Wikikids
editWhat about Wikikids? Is this proposal different? πr2 (t • c) 23:48, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Already exists
editThere is already a Simple English Wikipedia which uses more basic language. - YPNYPN ✡ 15:24, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- But the Simple English Wikipedia has articles that are probably not appropriate for children. AFAIK, it's for people learning English but kids can also use it. πr2 (t • c) 15:44, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- The creator of this proposal should read the Wikikids#Proposal_to_merging_existing_project_to_Wikikids. πr2 (t • c) 21:35, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
- agree with YPNYPN and PiRSquared17; also, a simple extension/gadget/script could be designed to give Simple English Wikipedia a more friendly appearance, and automatically hide inappropriate content. --Ricordisamoa (talk) 07:20, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- That's an interesting idea. How can we tell if content is inappropriate? Some might say that this violates simple:WP:NOTCENSORED. Related: Image filter referendum/en, simple:Wikipedia:Requests_for_deletion/Requests/2009/Autofellatio. πr2 (t • c) 18:11, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- I don't believe on the relevance of an automatic system to hide inappropriate content. Dealing with Simple English Wikipedia will certainly bring along many issues and discussions because it both have some valuable content and is not designed for children or is ambiguous about that. We should have a page about that, say : Wikikids/Relation to Simple English Wikipedia. Astirmays (talk) 18:45, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikikids and Wikijunior
editHm, there are two Wikis for youth yet: Wikijunior (see website) and Wikikids. That's why I don't understand that proposial yet - is there anything different? — Allrounder (talk) 00:11, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Merging to Wikikids
editHi, would anyone oppose to merge this proposal in Wikikids ? We may restart this proposal, I recently adapted and translated : Wikikids/Relation to the Rights of the Child and Wikikids/For children or by children ? and I may prepare other ones. Any help is welcomed (to fix my english, react...) Another subpage would be the review/state of play of current existing wikis akin to Wikikids in various language. Astirmays (talk) 18:07, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- That seems reasonable. There are already many similar proposals/sites like this. πr2 (t • c) 18:08, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
- Yes there is, but their development, or sometimes purpose and functioning can be diverse. That's why it may deserve to be set out. That's furthermore to tell about which of these wikis may join Wikikids by being adopted by Wikimedia in the way explained here : New project process#Adopting an existing project into Wikimedia. Post-Elsagate considerations?
editDue to the en:Elsagate scandal one may wish to consider how to protect kids in this potential project from being exposed to inappropriate material on the sly... WhisperToMe (talk) 20:23, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
