Your Wikipedia and the linguistic community

  • Is there a language institution for your language, like an Academy, or a club of people interested in your language? Do you have contact with them?
Yes, the Norwegian Language Council and the Norwegian Academy. I don't think we have any contact with them. —  Dieus 18:50, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We have contacted the Norwegian Language Council by e-mail several times with questions about language related issues. Haakon K 23:16, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Who (else) supports you?
  • How looks your public outreach for your edition? Do you have flyers, give lectures, trainings etc.?
  • Do you get feedback from readers?
  • What other encyclopedias exist in your language?
Store norske leksikon (280.000 entries) and Caplex (64.000 entries) are the other two significant encyclopedias in Norwegian (bokmål). --Kjetil r 20:11, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Content

edit
  • Does your edition concentrate on certain topics, like your region and language, or Latin Wikipedia on Roman history and Christianity?
    Of my knowledge, not significantly. Our article on Norway is a GA, but we’ve got a lot of FA’s on non-Norway related subjects. — H92 (t · c · no) 17:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Did your edition enjoy text donations, for example from older encyclopedias?
Generally not. However, a small numer of articles are imported from other GFDL resources, such as Lokalhistoriewiki (“Local history wiki”) --Kjetil r 20:15, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Language

edit
  • Is there a generally accepted norm about your language (spelling, dictionary, pronunciation)?
    Yes. We allow Bokmål and Riksmål. — H92 (t · c · no) 21:40, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • How do you deal with different spellings, dialects etc. (like B.E. lift and A.E. elevator)?
The Norwegian language has several spellings of many words, some original (from Danish), and some based on spoken dialects. It’s not allowed to change another user’s language, unless this is part of a drastic change/expansion of an article. Harmonization to one kind of Norwegian because of inconsistency is allowed. — H92 (t · c · no) 17:56, 28 August 2008 (UTC) (Edit 13:24, 3 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]
