Template:LanguageCodeConversion

eng

This template converts two letter ISO 639-1 code (including Wikipedia invention) into three letter ISO 639-3 code.

This template should be deprecated. We use now many more BCP47 codes, supported with the #language parser function and the translation extension or the localisation of MediaWiki, and prefer 2-letter codes. ISO 639-3 codes are not warrantied to be stable enough and these templates require constant and unnecessary maintenance.

Babel templates should work with BCP47 codes directly (which cover nearly 8000 languages and also provide fallbacks), they also require manual maintenance of their categories. They should be renamed to use BCP47 codes, using 2-letter codes if possible (or if not possible; codes compatible with BCP47 for correctly converting Wikipedia inventions (See {{BCP47}}) in a way compatible with HTML language tagging rules.
