Minor changes

I have changed the colour of the border, and changed the image. Why should this look like a warning of some kind? It really is, in effect, a redirect, so I think the image, with the friendlier border, seems to better suit the purpose of this template. AnonymousDissident 10:12, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Delete the page after a certain time?

I'm not sure why these old junk pages should be left hanging around meta for ever and a day (unless there's a copyright/attribution issue) and, more importantly, many of these meta pages are showing up as top result on Google. Could they not be deleted after, say, 6 months? --Kingboyk 17:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Don't index?

Would it be a nice idea to not let these pages appear in search engines? Since 1.13 you can place the magic word __NOINDEX__ in the page. --Løde 20:35, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

No, pages should not be removed from search indexes unless there is very good reason to. Allowing indexing is actually helpful here; if the Meta page is higher-ranked than the MediaWiki page, it will help users find the documentation. —Pathoschild 21:30:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Preserve edit history

Can we add a warning that pages tagged with this template should not be deleted, in order to preserve their edit history (possibly enabled or suppressed through a parameter)? Many pages moved to MediaWiki refer to the corresponding pages here on Meta to satisfy licensing "attribution" requirements. - dcljr (talk) 01:08, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Pages should preferably be moved with edit history. However, there are certainly many pages that have been moved without history, so it makes sense to add the note, but it should definitely be parameter-dependent (I’d say opt-out, i.e. shown unless disabled, because if one forgets to move the page with edit history, they’ll most likely also forget to add any parameter). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:41, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
