Call for Candidates
The Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) is a global group dedicated to providing an equitable and consistent implementation of the UCoC. Community members are invited to submit their applications for the U4C.
As outlined by section 2.1 of the U4C charter, each member and candidate must:
- Comply with the UCoC.
- Be at least 18 years old and sign the Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information (NDA) with the Wikimedia Foundation once they are elected.
- Have not been blocked on any Wikimedia project nor have an active event ban in the past one year. Candidates who are blocked may appeal to the Election Committee, who may make an exception.
- Self-identify their home wiki(s) and the region they are from publicly.
- Meet any other eligibility requirements determined during the election process.
- Be a registered member of at least one Wiki project for at least 365 days and have a minimum of 500 edits at 10 July 2024 12:00 UTC.
- Not have English Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, or Italian Wikipedia as their home wiki.[1]
Please note that all volunteers who meet the minimum requirements are eligible to run. Successful candidates so far have had more than 5000 edits (across all projects) and hold adminship (or other advanced permissions) on a project. For an overview of the candidates' user statistics, please see the candidates guide.
In this special election, according to chapter 2 of the U4C charter, there are 9 seats available on the U4C: four community-at-large seats and five regional seats to ensure the U4C represents the diversity of the movement. No more than two members of the U4C can be elected from the same home wiki.
After the first election 2024 (List of current members) and according the Wikimedia Foundation's regional approach, the open regional seats are:
- North America (USA and Canada)
- Latin America and Caribbean
- Central and East Europe (CEE)
- Sub-Saharan Africa
- South Asia
While U4C membership is for a two-year term, during this special election which is a follow up of the first election, regional representatives will fulfill the remaining part of a two-year term (which will end 15 June 2026) and the community-at-large representatives will fulfill the remaining part of a one-year term (which will end 15 June 2025).
Questions for candidates
Eligible voters can ask questions to all candidates on the Questions page. Voters are asked to post no more than 2 (two) relevant questions per candidate (in total; i.e. all questions a candidate needs to answer are counted), and keep them as concise and relevant as possible. Candidates are asked to answer as briefly and simply as possible.
Campaigning rules
Candidates are asked to review and comply with the campaigning rules throughout the election.
Nominations
Please visit the candidates page to see the candidates' self-introduction. There is also a page with all self-introductions and all questions and answers – all on one page.
Voting
Voter eligibility
Please review the voter eligibility criteria to find out whether you are eligible to vote.
The AccountEligibility tool can be used to quickly verify basic editor voting eligibility.
If you are eligible to vote:
- Read the candidates’ information.
- Decide which candidates you will support.
- Go to the SecurePoll voting page.
- Follow the instructions on that page.
Voting process
Per section 2.5. of the U4C charter:
- Voting is conducted by secret ballot, with voters leaving support, oppose and neutral votes for each candidate.
- Voters are able to vote for candidates from all regions.
- Neutral votes will not count.
- Voter eligibility will be decided by the Elections Committee.
- The candidate must have 60% or higher of votes as calculated by support/(support + oppose). After this qualification:
- For each candidate the number of opposes will be subtracted from the number of supporters. The candidates with the highest difference will be elected to each seat.
- If two candidates have the same difference then the percentage calculated by support/(support + oppose) will be used as a tiebreaker.
Results
Regional seats (two-year term):
- North America (USA and Canada)
Notes
- ↑ There are already 2 current members from each of these wikis, and no more than 2 members can be elected from a single wiki according to the charter.
