User:Acather96/Image Copyright Cleanup Team

Hi, I'm mainly active on enwiki, and one task I do a lot there is checking new files for copyright issues, and tagging for cleanup/deletion as appropriate.

I'm not usually that active on Meta, but was very surprised when I saw the state of images in the project. In fact, out of the last 50 files uploaded, 33 lacked license information, and allot lacked source information as well. Even worse, the category which lists problem images has images tagged back in 2008/2009 still waiting to be deleted. So this is what I am going to try and do...

Find volunteers to help and tag as many files that either

 • A) Lack licensing information
 • B)Lack source information
 • C) Need to be copied to Commons

Why? Even though it may seem somewhat draconian, it does state on the Upload page that images lacking licenses will be deleted, for obvious copyright reasons. Also, images without copyright tags do not let users know what rights they have regarding re-use of the file.

Anyone can join the team, and there are some resources listed below. Obviously, listing yourself as a volunteer does not give you any special authority, but is an expression of interest and also, helps with collaboration between Cleanup Team volunteers.

If you do tag a file, please consider using one of the following edit summaries to publicize the team:

 • Tagged file for deletion as it lacks licensing information, (You can help!)
 • Tagged file for deletion as it lacks source information, (You can help!)
 • Tagged file for deletion as it lacks licensing and source information, (You can help!)
 • Tagged file to be moved to Commons, (You can help!)
