The 2022 Board of Trustees election is about to close - without the Italians?

Hallo,

The Community Voting period of the 2022 Board of Trustees election started on August 23, 2022, and will close on September 6, 2022 23:59 UTC. After a week global participation is going towards a new best. But almost no Italians cast their vote.

The Italian Wikipedia is the No.9 community in the world in terms of the number of voters. Last year it had a tremendous turnout of 15.3%, the second biggest of the top 10 communities (after Polish with 22%).

Surprisingly this year the turnout from Italy is way lower - while last year already 124 voters cast their vote after a week, now it is just 83. The turnout is a meager 4.1%. Looking at the Top 10 projects by size, the Italian Community is at the low end in terms of voter turnout. The only Top 10 languages with a lower turnout are the Chinese, Japanese and Russian language versions.

This is surprising and slightly disappointing. A community of that size, not using it's significant voting powers ... This is quite different from other European Communities of a similar size. Most striking is the Polish Wikipedia, only half as big (1167 voters), but outnumbering the Italian Wikipedians even by absolute numbers (99 voters vs. 83). Communities as the German Wikipedia (6.3%) and the French (7%) are already heading to their last year result of 10%.

How the Italian community will represent itself is still open. We will know when we know about the most important question of the elections too: who will be elected in the end?
