WikiCite is
- a series of conferences and hackathons around Wikimedia, citations, and linked bibliographic metadata;
- a collection of projects to come out of these events;
- the community that has formed around these events and projects;
- an ongoing initiative to improve the open data ecosystem and the links between Wikimedia projects and the sources they rely on.

The development of WikiCite includes many classes of activities which require different skill sets to accomplish and which different communities of contributors manage.
