The responsibilities of the GCB include:
- Drafting the initial Wikimedia Movement strategic plan, subject to approval by the GCA, as part of its strategic planning function,
- Supervising and overseeing the processes of electing, selecting or appointing members to the GCA,
- Serving as the representative of the GC in stakeholder engagement activities,
- Coordinating the annual GC meeting,
- Maintaining accountability for the execution of the functions of the Global Council, encompassing both the GCA and the GCB.
