User:PhilBoswell/Reference test

This page tests the marvellous <ref> feature to be found here.

Multiple references to same citation

If I do this [1], and then this [2] and this [1], it works quite nicely[2].

Nested references

And if I do this Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag, does it work also? No, it would appear that you cannot nest references, which might be a shame Yes, you can now nest references.

Order should not be significant

But if you try using a reference [3] before you define it[3] it seems not to work…

Cannot redefine citation

So what happens if I do this [1]? It would appear that the first reference is definitive: you can refer to it again, but any text you put in is ignored.

Unique named instance used to have extra label, now fixed

So if you have a unique instance of a reference [4], then you get a label as if there were more than one even if there isn't you now get just the ordinary single-reference notation.

Commented-out <ref> still triggers

References

  1. a b c "foo" reference Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name "foo" defined multiple times with different content
  2. a b "bar" reference
  3. a b this is where we actually define "fubar"
  4. like this, say, which is never re-used
