The more I look, the more I think he deserves the same thing. - RoyBoy 04:27, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

If we do one for him, it needs to be unique, not a copy of this one. Do it as a Hypothesis, Experiment, conclusion thing? KillerChihuahua 05:33, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
For sure. - RoyBoy 15:33, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Concur - Parallel or Together? 03:15, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Unique, definately. What are your ideas on the hypothesis/experiment/conclusion thing? It suits him, but I'm not sure I understand how it could be worked into a banner. -- Ec5618 17:06, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Hypothesis: SA is richly deserving of a barnstar
Experiment: Compare data of SA's contributions with usual barnstar efforts (ok, this is horribly phrased but you get the idea - fixed variable is average contribution for getting one)
Findings (Conclusion?): SA has qualified for a barnstar at 935% qualified!
We hereby publish this barnstar...
Something like that. Someone for whom actually doing experiments is not in the distant past will have to tweak the terminology, the more pretentious the better IMHO. KillerChihuahua 19:07, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
An alternative would be to present it as a paper:
Abstract
Introduction
Methods
Results
Discussion
Abstract:SA has been shown to be richly deserving of a barnstar
Introduction:Great guy, amazing contribs.
Methods:SA's contributions were compared with the efforts of the usual crew of barnstar recipients.
Results:SA's contributions were found to be far above the standard normally required for a barnstar (p < 0.0001).
Discussion:Based on the fact that SA is richly deserving of a barnstar, we strongly recommend that he be awarded one.

Agree re SA, he's another damned good editor deserving of a barnstar. Jim62sch 22:50, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

I like the scientific publication idea a lot. Nicely laterally thought through. I'm sure it'll cause some consternation to some ID-ers, but isn't that part of the fun? I entirely commend the effort to create the (outrageously overdue) barnstar. This is the first time I've been involved in any such effort, so you'll have to forgive my not-bringing-anything-to-the-table-ness. And my appearing-anonymously-ness. I like the paper plan. I nominate Guettarda, as an acknowledged scientist, to write it. I know he doesn't have anything better to do this time of year. :P

On the Matter of the Award of a Barnstar to Serial Arsonist
Journal of Wikipedia
20:38, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Abstract: Serial Arsonist has been shown to be richly deserving of barnstars.
Introduction: Since September 15, 2004, SA has made substantial contributions to the Journal of Wikipedia. However, these contributions have not, to date, been recognised by the award of a Barnstar. We propose to test the null hypothesis that SA is not deserving of a Barnstar.
Methods: SA's first 5,000 contributions were compared with those of other Wikipedia editors who had received the coveted award of a Barnstar. Each edit by SA and by a random sample of barnstar awardees was scored on a scale of 1-5, where 1 = "excellent" and 5 = "suckee". A two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to evaluate the null hypothesis.
Results: SA's contributions were found to be significantly better than that of the average Barnstar awardee (p < 0.0001).
Discussion: The null hypothesis was rejected; SA is richly deserving of a Barnstar. Based on this fact, we strongly recommend that he be awarded two.

Just for kicks. It still looks an awful lot like the JM one. -- Ec5618 19:21, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

I added another barnstar, and tweaked accordingly. - RoyBoy 20:19, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
Can anyone think of a possibe but more implausible statistical test to use? Guettarda 15:06, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

I was just contacted by RoyBoy, but he didn't say what for, just mentioned this page. If you want to add my name to one of the barnstars on this page (due I assume to be presented sometime soon to the deserving individuals named), feel free to do so. Cheers. I would also be happy to be added if it helps. These puppies are long overdue. As regards placement on a page, the user's own page is the obvious location. But then the aesthetics matter even more, as it'd be a shame to muck up the very page of the person we're honouring. Would it be possible to rotate the current draft so that it's landscape with a couple of columns of text? A left-right banner is probably less likely to upset an existing user page than a portrait one. Otherwise, keep up the good work. Cheers, Plumbago 139.166.244.113 11:28, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Final draft

edit

So there is only one final thing to decide... whether it should be redesigned to be as wide as a page. I think it should given the amount of text in it. I hope to get feedback on this soon, when SA gets over 5,000 edits it will be awarded. - RoyBoy 20:38, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

I like the single column, but I have no problem with the wide format either. Guettarda 06:36, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
I have to admit the slender column does look more journalistic. I guess we'll keep it as is, and mention that if he wants to make it wider, he certainly can. - RoyBoy 06:15, 7 January 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good. So - anything else, or should we go for it? Guettarda 20:48, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
Just waiting for 3 more edits and he'll be at 5,000. - RoyBoy 00:47, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
