Wikimania opens registration to all

edit

This summer's global Wikimania conference began registration at 20:00 UTC Monday. Sponsors such as Directmedia Publishing claim it will be "more fun than a barrel of move-vandals," and encourage you to register early and often.

Wikipedia DVD explodes onto German market

edit

Not content with their fall release of a feature-packed Fall CD with 130,000 articles, 1,200 images, which was distributed and downloaded over 100,000 times, the German Wikipedia's crack team of content-reviewers turned out a Spring DVD with more than twice as much content.

Both works are distributed via DirectMedia. The DVD, including a snapshot of the German Wikipedia and reader software, was released on Friday, April 1. It quickly rose into the top-20 list of Amazon.de's most popular software titles over the weekend.

April Fools fools some

edit

April Fools was celebrated on some of the Wikimedia projects. The most popular joke was Wikipedia's fake news story about being acquired by Britannica; the featuring of such jokes on the Wikipedia main page was controversial, making it into the list of "lamest edit wars ever".

Languages unite in ignoring new wikimedia-wide projects

edit

The many projects and language-editions of the Wikimedia family of Grandiose Ideas joined together in ignoring the newest efforts to unify community focus and priorities. Well-conceived and eloquently motivated pages, entitled "Wikimedia Collaboration of the Week," "Please Help Me," "I Really Need Help Now," and "Wikimedia Weekly News," were eagerly read and edited... by the people who created them in the first place.

Wikimedian No Delish, active on seven Wikimedia projects, was enthusiastic about the influs of new coordination efforts. S/he was overheard saying, "Awesome! Four more pages I have to monitor. I'll get right on that. Can each of these have versions in twenty different languages?"

TimStarling finds himself at the other end of the support telephone:

sannse: go read the FAQs... only I think you might have to write them first

TimStarling: k thx... I think there's something wrong with the load balancer, the master board member is overloaded

sannse: It'll all be fixed in wikimedia 1.5 you know

TimStarling: and when will that be out?

sannse: "one day"

TimStarling: ok, I'll wait till then, thanks
