User:Yug and PlaneMad's Wikimania IEG Scholarship 2014 report.

Pre-conf

PlaneMad and Yug were both invided to the 2014 Wikimania. Yug also mentored 2 professional developers and junior Wikimedians, Edouard Lopez & Jakub (ShareMap.com) guiding them to get Wikimedia France scholarships and attend this 2014 Wikimania. While Edouard and Jakub mostly planed to focus on their own map project, those were related to map making, collaborating with WikiAtlas and providing coding support during the 2014 Wikimania Hackathon.

General

Thank to WMF Wikimania scholarship we was encouraged and able to attend Wikimania 2014 & its hackathon.
Most of the time was spent in the hackathon room expanding code (occasionally with critical support!) and documentation.
We met and discussed with dozens of wikimedians, a part of whom into coding and map making, to raise awareness on our work and expand our personal networks.
Collaboration with Jakub (sponsored by WMFR), its ShareMap.org and WMF driven projects (Wikipedias, Commons, WikiVoyage, Wikidata) was discussed daily.
Collaboration with Edouard Lopez (sponsored by WMFR), reusing WikiAtlas-generated geojson data, lead to prototyping a Vega dataviz working within MediaWiki.
We exchanged with OSM presenters about the Wikimedia cartographic ecosystem and its future.

Editing an article to embed a dataviz using Graph+Vega and a topojson object describing India.
Resulting data visualisation displaying Wikiatlas' data. The map is lightly interactive : hover areas change their color.
