I feel very silly

edit

Dear Daniel, I feel very silly for not placing my OTRS volunteering application on the bottom of the page. Oops!! Basket of Puppies 01:45, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

No problems. Please also see the email I just sent you in response to your email to volunteers-otrs. Regards, Daniel (talk) 01:47, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I received the email and have replied. Cheers! Basket of Puppies 02:13, 15 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sorry

edit

Howdy Daniel,

I thought I would change the name in Huib since I used that for my sig, I didn't really realise that it would make it impossible for you to check cross-wiki contributions, sorry for that, and thanks for changing it.

Best regards, 04:39, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

No problems. Daniel (talk) 06:30, 16 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

OTRS help request

edit

Hello Daniel, I am Tony the Marine from en. Wikipedia and I need your help. The following image File:Joe Sanchez.jpg has been placed for deletion. However, permission from the copyright holder was forwarded on 11/8/ 09 and again on 11/12/09. Here it is: bluewall@mpinet.net. "I, Joe Sanchez_____, as the copyright holder of the image attached/in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Joe_Sanchez.jpg, agree to release in under the terms of GFDL. I understand that this allows anyone to use the image for any purpose, including commercial use, as long as the constraints in the license, like attribution, are respected."

I would appreciate if you would look into the process or at least have the deletion of the image delayed until OTRS does what it does, because it would be a pity to have the image deleted. Thank you. 63.215.26.137 00:43, 12 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

OTRS

edit

Dear Daniel,

could you please comment your edit? Are those people are OTRS agents now? Thank you! Dr Bug (Vladimir V. Medeyko) 00:31, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some are, some aren't. I don't see what there is to comment on, to be honest. Daniel (talk) 03:11, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Dear Daniel, I'm a bit depressed by your answer...
Namely, there was a nomination of :ru:user:Rubin16 - whom I endorsed, as I met him many times in Russian Wikipedia, and we really need more OTRS agents for Russian OTRS queues (I'm one of the OTRS agents as well). So I was surprised when his nomination was deleted with no comment (as far as I remember, earlier it used to put some comment like "promoted" or something like that).
However, I now see that he was promoted and he's OTRS agent now. So the issue is closed now.
Sorry for disturbing! Dr Bug (Vladimir V. Medeyko) 19:21, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
We don't say who is accepted and who isn't when removing nominations because users sometimes wish to keep their participation in OTRS confidential; see the top of otrswiki:LOA (notably the warnings under the red banner at the top). I'd be intrigued to know who wrote/where "promoted" was written, and ask that you provide a difflink. Daniel (talk) 21:04, 13 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, I do never disclose confidential information. For Rubin16, I took it here.
I've checked the earlies edits of OTRS/volunteering, and found there several examples of respective comments for edits. Maybe it wasn't that strict during early OTRS days?
Sorry, I don't think that we need to issue a penalty for minor misdoings that were committed several years ago. I'd better send private warnings to all users whom I found when I was looking for the examples. Could you please point me after which exact moment such comments started to be treatead as a violation? Thanks! Dr Bug (Vladimir V. Medeyko) 21:47, 14 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Daniel I notice that you turned me down as a Volunteer. I respect your decision but would like to respectful ask if there a OTRS Volunteer Apprenticeship or similar that I could work through in order to prove myself? Also could you maybe tell me what was the main factor that lead to your decision? I'm also sending this to your email just in case you see it firstTucsonDavid 05:33, 1 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Global Block

edit

Dear Daniel,

I understand that you are an Administrator on the English wikipedia. I have been an avid use of Wiki and have made a few contributions in the past. I understand that vandalism is bad for business and therefore always ensure that I sign on before I do an edit. Recently I have been unable to edit due to a "Global Block" from User Shizhao. I am a layman and do not understand tech language and I believe this has not been a criteria to contribute to Wikipedia. I have contributed both time and money to Wiki and therefore get frustrated to see an unfinished page which I have the passion in completing, but left helpless due to the indiscrimination from Shizhai. Hope you can help. Vanillacream. Vanillacream 19:18, 10 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Account reactivation

edit

Hello Daniel,

I noticed today that someone has deactivated my OTRS account yesterday (possibly due to inactivity). The fact is I was inactive for an approximate period of 8 months, but I've become active about 2 weeks ago. As a matter of fact I had been cleaning spams for ten days or so before the inactivation, and was about to get more busy with responses.

I was wondering if you could reactivate my account, and reinstate my access to info-tr and permissions.

Cheers

Vito Genovese 15:08, 30 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have reactivated your account, Vito! Sorry about the confusion. I guess our inactivity report did not acknowledge the fact that you came back, but we decided to err on the side of closing inactive accounts because it can be so easily undone and it had been so long since we had cleaned out inactive accounts. It's good to have you back and sorry again for this! :-) Cbrown1023 talk 20:49, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It was because he requested the "Top" template be deleted, which caused all of the pages that use that template to show up in the category. We just have to wait for the category to refresh. Cbrown1023 talk 17:36, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speaker for a class in Adelaide

edit

Dear Daniel I'd like to get my class at the University of Adelaide to contribute to Wikipedia in semester 2 2012. I'm new to this, and wonder if there is someone who would be able to come and talk to us about the concept, and its delights and pitfalls? Thank you. Julia Miller

Thank you for your translations

edit

Dear Daniel:

Thank you for helping to translate the WMF Grants program pages on Meta. Thanks to your efforts, these programs will be accessible to more people all over the world. We would like to send you something in appreciation of your work, so please contact us by Email at grants at wikimedia dot org with your name, shirt size (optional), address for delivery (not a PO Box), and telephone number (for delivery).

We would also like to let you know that our programs are growing and we will need to make some significant changes to these program pages in the next few weeks. When this happens, these pages may need to be retranslated, although much of the new text will be identical or similar to the text you've already translated: you've already translated this text, so you'd be able to copy and paste much from your existing translation. Please consider continuing to support the movement's work in this area, and please continue to let your multilingual friends and colleagues know that this support is still needed as our programs grow!

Please also let us know if you have any feedback for us: it's always welcome.

With appreciation,

Wolliff (talk) 18:41, 14 August 2012 (UTC) (on behalf of the Wikimedia Grants Team)Reply

Jerome Swartz Edits

edit

I want to know why you have blocked my addition to Jerome Swartz Bio? All info placed there is reproduced from SEC and other govt. docs and newspapers. I would like to speak with you about this but can't find your e-mail. Please respond. SexiestDJ

Your edits grossly fail the BLP policy and are horribly biased. You cannot reproduce data from reports, that counts as original research. Daniel (talk) 21:41, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Temporary admin rights expired

Hello Daniel,

I just wanted to inform you, that I've right now removed the temporary admin rights, which have been granted to you for the 2015 election committee work. Regards, -Barras talk 10:38, 1 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your OTRS access. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

wrongly accused

I tried hard to find the correct place to send this. This was the best I could find. It is not of course dircted at you personally.

Whilst viewing and article I received a notice that I had a message from another user, when I looked at it I found it was an accusation that I had wrongly edited an article as below. I have never edited any article in Wikipedia and strongly object to such strongly worded accusation!
