Strange coincidence

edit

Hi Geo Swan/archive 2022-03-19

I don’t believe we ever interacted on en-wikipedia where I am indef-blocked since January (February?) 2017. I am writing to you to let you know of a strange coincidence that seems to connect us.

Back in +-2014, a time when I was quite busy tying to build content on en-wiki, it felt like I was being followed by an editor who was involved in many deletions and reversions of my edits. I don’t remember the details, but I remember two IDs this user went by: Mike and Mrfrobinson (and others that I don't remember offhand). This user was causing me enough aggravation that I tried for a while to see what else he/she was doing on en-wiki by looking up his/her contribution history. I remember at the time that it seemed like this user was doing very little other than hassling me with one small exception: they also tried to hassle you shortly before starting on me (IIRC). I remember at the time being impressed by the way you were able to cut them short. The offending user (together with another user and an admin) finally got tired of hassling me and moved on, or so it seemed at the time.

And now comes the strange part: I was visiting the en-wiki earlier today and by some strange co-incidence landed on your talkpage where I was surprised to see a comment posted by WLC, who happens to be the user who initiated the ANI proceeding that got me indef-blocked in early 2017. Before WLC got me blocked he/she exhibited behaviour very similar to Mike/mrf, but was much more sophisticated with a much better command of the English language. WLC seemed to have no problem on ANI whatsoever, even though when he/she complained about me he was almost a wiki-newbie, and I was a 9 year veteran.

I hope you don’t mind me bringing this to your attention. Ottawahitech (talk) 10:49, 26 December 2017 (UTC)Please ping meReply

Thanks. I suspected it was something frivolous. Geo Swan (talk) 01:15, 30 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Call For Volunteer Facilitators Across Africa

edit

The African Narrative

Dear Wikimedian,

The Africa Narrative is seeking volunteer facilitators in Egypt (two volunteers) and Senegal (two volunteers) for the AfroCreatives Wikiproject.

The AfroCreatives Wikiproject aims to support and mobilize creatives and professionals from the African creative sector, as well as enthusiasts more broadly, to contribute and enhance knowledge on Wikipedia about Africa’s creative economy. Its inaugural effort will target the film sectors of Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Senegal.

The Africa Narrative (TAN) is a non-profit that develops singular, high-impact initiatives in support of African creatives and the African cultural and creative industries with the aim to strengthen capacity in the continent’s creative economy and the global visibility of African cultural soft power.

All volunteers must have full professional proficiency in English. In Senegal, they must have native or full professional proficiency in French; in Egypt, they must have native or full professional proficiency in Arabic. Volunteer facilitators should have a vast knowledge about Wikimedia projects and experience with teaching new editors. All volunteers will be compensated.

Interested participants may sign up on the project's Meta page. You may also indicate your country and email if your Wikipedia account is not associated with any email address.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/The_Africa_Narrative/Volunteers

We will be glad if you can share with or recommend an Egyptian or Senegalese Wikipedian as well.

Thank you.
