Priority for global names by registration date?

edit

Hello, my English username "gladstone" from 29 Jan 2005 has been given to a Portuguese account registered 36 days ago on 17 March 2015. Don't earlier registrations get priority and how can i request this? Thanks Gladstone~enwiki (talk) 10:33, 22 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Gladstone~enwiki: The account creation date you see is when the Portuguese account was converted to the global account; that's the global registration date. The account was actually registered at some point pre-2004, as it doesn't have a user creation log and that only happens when accounts are that old. The account also has more edits, so it received the global name. You can read the rationale here. You do not have to keep this new username, you can pick out a new or similar name and fill out a simple form to get a new username: Special:GlobalRenameRequest. Merging accounts (Poloch)

edit

Hi,

My account on French Wiktionary has been renamed to Poloch~frwiktionary. But the Poloch on all other projects is actually the same person (me!). So I now have 2 accounts on French Wiktionary. Could you please merge "Poloch~frwiktionary" with "Poloch"? Of course, if needed I can prove I own both accounts, of course. Just send me an email to the addresses attached to both accounts, or ask me to write a message on my user page with both accounts, or whatever! Thanks!

Poloch (talk) 16:41, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Poloch: please leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 18:32, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Renaming/mergin accounts (J-beda)

edit

I've just gotten a message about https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:J-beda~commonswiki , but Special:MergeAccount seems to indicate that I have already got a whole bunch of signons merged under my https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:J-beda account (for example my most activity has been at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:J-beda ) So, what has been missed at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:J-beda~commonswiki ? Perhaps my email address was slightly different in the two cases? Should I update the J-beda~commonswiki email address to match the J-beda one? Will that magically get them all to merge? J-beda (talk) 12:31, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I've just changed the email address of user:J-beda~commonswiki (talk) to match the email address of user:J-beda (talk), will they now be able to be merged? How do I go about doing that? J-beda~commonswiki (talk) 14:40, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@J-beda: If you want to get Special:CentralAuth/J-beda~commonswiki and Special:CentralAuth/J-beda merged please leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. However, J-beda~commonswiki has no edits (excluding 1 on Meta now), so you can just stop using the account. --Stryn (talk) 18:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Renaming account (Togo)

edit

Hi, I have been using Togo at EN, DE and ES wikipedia and apparently also at en.wikinews.org Now when I go and want to unify my accounts I cant, because apparently a much later registered Togo@pl beat me to it! Now I see that that PL account has been blocked indefinitely. Still I can't unify my accounts which I had much longer than that pl account exists! https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Special:CentralAuth/Togo tells me they don't even find my ES account - have to investigate why: List of local accounts Local wiki Attached on Method Blocked Edit count Groups pl.wikipedia.org 14:40, 17 March 2015 home wiki(?) Blocked indefinitely. Reason: Użytkownik zmarł 13,153 de.wikipedia.org not attached not attached — 1,539 en.wikipedia.org not attached not attached — 392

at any rate I should not lose my easy to remember and type username because of an indefinitely blocked account! Can you help me with this, and also restore my simple en.wikinews.org account? I see my ES account has already been renamed ( https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario:Togo~eswiki ), so now I am supposed to have 4 totally different hard to remember names, just because your automated scripts are so buggy?

As Togo already belongs to other user, you need to choose another username. We can merge all of your accounts, but please leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 18:42, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Did you get any information different from what I found? The Togo on PL is 'Blocked indefinitely', I have 4 Wikipedia accounts Togo and I want to keep it that way! HELP!!! --Togo (talk) 23:47, 22 April 2015 (MEST)

Renaming account (Vanya)

edit

I just got a message about renaming one of my wikibooks accounts. The Wikipedia Vanya account is also owned by me! It'd be great if both the accounts could be merged ?

All those accounts at Special:CentralAuth/Vanya belongs to you and won't be renamed. Do you have more accounts? --Stryn (talk) 18:46, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Renaming account (jimbreen)

edit

I just got *another* message about renaming one of my wikimedia accounts. I think someone has confused two of my accounts in the merger and thought they were two different people. The email was sent to "jim.breen@infotech.monash.edu.au" which is an address I haven't used for many years, and it related to wikibooks. I have logged in to do this reply using my regular wikimedia handle. The renaming of the wikibooks one is not needed; just merge it with the wikimedia one with the email "jimbreen@gmail.com".

ThanksJimBreen (talk) 07:06, 19 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@JimBreen: what was that one wikimedia account? What are the accounts that you own? If you have many accounts now, you can ask for merging them, just leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 18:54, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I just got a *third* rename message, this time changing me to "Jimbreen~mediawikiwiki". The last one was renamimg me to "imbreen~wikibooks". I really only use Wikipedia, and I've been "JimBreen" there for many, many years. Who is this phantom Jim Breen who you've allocated my account name too? He can't have been using Wikipedia. Renaming account Algen

edit

My account (Algen) is registered for 5 Wiki sites (most active in Russian segment: N>1000), but this name is also belongs to 6 other language users. Five of them are inactive and the sixth blocked 4 years ago. Can I keep my name for myself globally? I've read Talk:Global rename_policy#Amendment to usurpation policy. This is my case. But what could I do to use this amendment? Algen (talk) 23:27, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Algen: Hi there, you logged in the other day and in doing so attached your account to your global account: Special:CentralAuth/Algen. By doing so your accounts will no longer be renamed. Once the renaming of the other accounts takes place next week you will own the name "Algen" on all the wikis. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:37, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Pokernikus

edit

I am the german "Pokernikus". Is that my problem? --Pokernikus (talk) 01:27, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Pokernikus: When you logged in the other day your accounts attached and will no longer be renamed. You can now log in as Pokernikus on any Wikimedia wiki. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:00, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Try to get my name

edit

Hi! My story can be seen here. In short a user in de wiki usurped the existing user stefan a few days before SUL, therefore going against the intent of the SUL rules, he was an admin and therefore got the SUL account for a account that he usurped 17 days earlier and I had been using for 5 years before that (I had checked just a few weeks before and I was sure to get the SUL account), I have tried to argue this but have been told that there is not a common place to discuss, now it looks like there is a common place that can take my account so it should be able to be discussed? please advice if there is anything I can do and where to bring this up. SilkyShark (talk) 15:24, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@SilkyShark: you might raise a discussion at Talk:Steward_requests/Username_changes. I have no idea how it will go. I'm sympathetic to your situation, this is one of the reasons why the final claim of global name was not left wide open, but it cannot change the past. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 05:12, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Another account renaming question

edit

Hi. I got a message on my Commons talk page stating that my Commons account "Bob." will be renamed into something cryptic. Why is that necessary? My Commons account is attached to my SUL "Bob." since the beginning of SUL several years ago, i.e. there shouldn't be any name clash. --Bob. (talk) 15:49, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

You don't need to care about the message that you got on Commons. You own the global account so you're safe from the renaming. --Stryn (talk) 17:02, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mondschein

edit

Hi there, thanks for your message and congratulations on your impeccable Italian! I need to take lessons from you!!! Question: is the "other" user Mondschein still active? Kind regards, Andreas (Mondschein)

I know, right? Suddenly I know sixty languages :) But seriously, if you were offended by my message in Italian when I'm clearly not an Italian speaker, I'm sorry about that, but the global community would much rather provide localized information than just slapping English on everyone.
To the point though, all of what I believe are your accounts have been unified by login. You can see them at Special:CentralAuth/Mondshein. If the unattached accounts are yours, you can log in to lmo:Special:MergeAccount and unify them by password. If they are not yours, you will own that name on those wikis once this process is complete in a few weeks.
Thank you for your time, my apologies for the confusion. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 05:08, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, and thanks for the timely response! Now, if I could only get the happy folks at my work to answer emails as swiftly as you do, we would be a much more productive nation and we could probably abstain ourselves from invading just about every country on the face of the earth in order to exploit their natural resources, but I digress... :-)
What do you know? I noticed that you even speak perfect English and German!!!! Truly impressive!
On a serious note: I am sorry but I am not "Mondshein", rather "Mondschein". At the moment I am active as Mondschein on the ALS, BAR, LMO, and RM Wikis. On the German Wiki I am active as WenInteressierts, whereas on the English one I am Mondschein_English.
Any way I could possibly consolidate all these nicks into one, i.e. "Mondschein", since I am pretty sure I am the only "Mondschein" who is actually active on any of the aforementioned Wikis, or any Wikis, for that matter?
Kind regards,
Mondschein
Ah, sorry about the typo in the link, I was looking at the correct account on CentralAuth though. It appears that all "Mondschein" accounts that belong to you are unified and will not be renamed: Special:CentralAuth/Mondschein. Your other two accounts, Mondschein_English and WenInteressierts, will be able to be merged into the "Mondschein" account in about a month when global user merge is deployed to stewards. You can file a request then and it will be handled in a timely manner. Until then, or whenever you choose to have your accounts merged, you will be able to use "Mondschein" on the English and German Wikipedias, and all other wikis, after the other accounts are renamed this month. I hope this helps, thanks for your patience. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 05:07, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi, thanks for your reply. I am happy to hear I will finally be able to just log into one account and be good to go on every Wiki. How will I be able to tell that the big global user merge has gone through, in other words how will I be able to tell that it is finally time to lodge my request to have Mondschein_English and WenInteressierts meerged into Mondschein? Many thanks again for all you work! Andreas (Mondschein)
The easiest way would probably subscribe to Tech News, it will certainly be announced there where all subscribers can read it. I'll also be posting to various village pumps at the time as well. It's a new tool, however, so I don't want to overload the stewards with requests off the bat until we are certain it is working 100% as it should. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 23:39, 10 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Serten II and Serten

edit

Hallo Keegan, as pointed out in https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Serten_II&action=edit&section=82 and https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Steward_requests/Username_changes&diff=prev&oldid=10720330 the account Serten competes with another Serten on WP in general. I would like to have a generic account, suggestion "Sertenario" including my old credentials. OK? Serten II (talk) 08:28, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Serten II: I believe you own the Serten account and logged in with it on 22 March, according to CentralAuth: Special:CentralAuth/Serten. If you can still use that account then you are fine, your accounts attached and will not be renamed. If you'd like to rename to Sertenario you can do that w:Special:GlobalRenameRequest but if you can still use the Serten account you're welcome to just use that. Once account unification is complete and all accounts are global the stewards will have a tool that can merge separately-named accounts upon request. You'll need to wait for that. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:23, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi. First the former Problem with the Serten account seems to be gone. I can use "serten" on all wiki expect turkish and wikidata. Insofar I would be happy with a merger of Serten II into Serten. Could you start that please, Keegan? Serten (talk) 19:03, 14 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Serten: please leave a request at Steward requests/Username changes. --Stryn (talk) 19:35, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

User Name Change sultankhadar

edit

Hi, I have been actively working in wikipedia from 2007 in English, Telugu and Kannada Wiki languages. I saw your notice from changing my name from sultankhadar to sultankhadar~tewiki. I think you misunderstood that some other user is using my id in other wikipedia, i.e in english. its actually me only. I request you not to change my username in telugu wikipedia and not to discourage me. Let me know if you want any further clarifications.--Sultankhadar (talk) 14:41, 11 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Sultankhadar: When you logged in the other day and yesterday, your accounts attached and will not longer be renamed. Thanks! Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:56, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

User name change Muso

edit

Of course I use the name username for all Wikimedia projects: Wikitravel, German and English Wikipedia and also commons. What is wrong with that? It is stupid that I cannot log in once and use ALL Wikimedia projects. I mean for example with google, I have only one account and can use gmail and also blogger.com and google analytics. So either merge all my Muso accounts or leave them as they are.

thanks and regards --Muso (talk) 21:43, 11 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Muso: Hi there. When you logged in the other day all of your accounts were attached to your global account and they will not be renamed. Once the other accounts that use that name are renamed this coming week, you will be able to log in once and for all to all Wikimedia projects. That's the whole point :) Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:54, 12 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

You have renamed Userboxes. Why? --Дагиров Умар (talk) 22:35, 17 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Dear Keegan, the renaming of user accounts has also badly affect most of the userboxes on Croatian Wikipedia. Regards, Maestro Ivanković (talk) 09:06, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
It was a user sub page (page in the user namespace) that was moved as part of the SUL finalization. --Stryn (talk) 09:16, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Can't access to old account

edit

Thanks for this message:

"This account has been renamed as part of single-user login finalisation. If you own this account you can log in using your previous username and password for more information. If you do not like this account's new name, you can choose your own using this form after logging in: Special:GlobalRenameRequest."

But I can no longer access my old account. And when I ask for a new password so that I can, the e-mail never arrives in my in-box! Rosa Lichtenstein.

Renomear usuario

edit

I don't know why my account name was changed -- I've had the username Aircombat across ALL the MediaWiki sites (Wikipedia, Wikibooks, etc) for years now. This doesn't make any sense, nobody else should have my user name. While reading the notice that my username has been changed, it shows my username as Aircombat at the top of the page.
