Late response

Sorry for the late response. I see that Robin already reopened your request... Last two days I was preparing for the trip and flying. I am now finally reading emails for the past few days. --Millosh 20:22, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Abigor

Hi Dferg, I've spoken to you on IRC yesterday about Abigor and his alledged Xxxxxx xxxxxx fucks Xxxxx Xxxxxx in his ass-account. According to you the checkusers were discussing this and there should be a response to this yesterday night. I haven't seen any reaction so I'm wondering why this is taking so long. Information on nl:Overleg gebruiker:Abigor/blockmsg shows that the account and Abigor are linked and that the information came from a CU done on meta. Could you tell me when and where a reaction will be given from the checkusers about this account which has been linked to Abigor? Thank you Silver Spoon 20:11, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Herby already responded about this matter why are you looking for a different answer? [1] Huib talk Abigor 20:15, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm not talking about that Abigor, I'm talking about a reaction to this from the check users who were still discussing this yesterday. The link you're showing is from Herby who said something way before that. @Dferg, my question still stands. Silver Spoon 20:18, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
Way before that? Its the same account you are still talking about, stop playing games. Huib talk Abigor 20:20, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
I'm not playing games, I'm waiting for an answer like I said here. And there will be one, we only have to show some patience (see here). Silver Spoon 20:29, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
My interpretation on what the tool says has been posted there. I'd kindly ask all of you to continue the discussion there -if any- and not by other means. -- Dferg ☎ talk 18:34, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Accounts (and deception)

Hi df! Unfortunately I still have to resolve the issue with these unattached accounts. This is dragging me down... I like to ostensively combat vandalism. Since my home wiki (pt-wikt) does not have many vandals to repress, I go to other projects to continue the fight against them, but it seems they got an advantage. Some account creators have made accounts with the name "Striker" but never edited or cared about it. They just ruined for who wants to contribute (me). Well, I already requested usurpation for the username in various wikis, however it sounds that I haven't done it properly or my requests are being pretermited. I would give a cookie for someone that is willing to do the requests for me (or at least assist me with the procedure). Striker talk 18:03, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

I've posted at dewiki on your behalf, asking for usurpation of Benutzer:Striker@dewiki there. I'll check the other projects too and see what I can do. Hope that this helps. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 18:27, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
It certainly helped, though they seem to not have read the request you made. Before replying I made a solicitation for slwiki. For nlwiki (and perhaps for more projects too) I would need to create another account to be able to request. Should I? It'd be User:Striker-temp, yet I'm afraid of the possibility of holding more that one account (I've always been personaly against sock puppets). Striker talk 18:01, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Striker on de-WP is now free for autocreation. Regards, FritzG 21:41, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you xD. Now there are 17 projects left. Striker talk 19:12, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Sorry to trouble you

It is a while since I did anything on the SBL but are we still logging stuff fully? If so maybe this edit needs attention. I think all too often new admins think they now the system but are maybe unsure. Regards --Herby talk thyme 10:38, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Edit looks OK and it's logged. Side-note: if you're interested in doing SBL work again you might find useful SBHandler which can be enabled in Special:Preferences in the Gadgets section. Automatic adition and removal of domains/logging. It's awesome. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 14:52, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

CU - Which information are being obtained

The additional information provided by the CheckUser tool while checking the vandalic account IP reveals that the device the account was created from is an special one. One that can not be normally shared and if shared, the responsibility remains on the owner of the device.

— -- Dferg ☎ talk on Requests for comment/Abigor#CU

Which are the information you can obtain during performing a CU. Is there a list? I'm just curious - nothing evil. -- Rillke 11:37, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello. Please see here. Hope that this answers. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 11:40, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. Had a look at CU but not there. -- Rillke 11:49, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
Rillke, the general answer would be what Dferg explained, definitive and complete IP, timing, and user agent string. This was enough to establish beyond reasonable doubt the operational identity of Dirt Diver (an acknowledged Abigor sock), and the vandal. The problem is that if there was a compromise of either Abigor's computer, or the Dirt Diver account, someone out to discredit Abigor could have done this, and Abigor should therefore have the information so that he can investigate how it happened (if he's actually innocent. If he's "guilty," this information will do no harm, since he knows, we can hope, what he did! His IP and user agent information is not a secret from him.) --Abd 16:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Request

Dferg, please see [2], I request that information be provided to Abigor as explained in the steward request. Perhaps I should have asked you first, given that your evidence was used. There is no challenge to your conclusion, which I fully trust is appropriate. However, there remains a possibility that there was a compromised account. Please see the new steward request as linked. Since you already know what information you used, you could be the one who could satisfy this request most efficiently, avoiding a need to appeal this to ombudsmen or the office. (This is an unusual request, normally putative sock masters do not request and allow public disclosure, hence the quick opinion that was given that disclosure would be impossible, but policy clearly allows disclosure of the private information upon user consent.) Abd 16:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Hello Abd, sorry for the late reply. I understand your request but I'm in the same situation as Barras and therefore I can't grant that request. Notwithstanding others could be asked. -- Dferg ☎ talk 10:50, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the response, Dferg. I understand neither what happened to Barras nor what happened to you, and both of you resigned the checkuser tool. Coincidentally? You used checkuser to observe personally identifying information, per policy. It is not alleged that you violated policy, nor is it alleged that you did anything illegal or improper. However, the information which you found, you disclosed to the community in substance, as to conclusion, and that conclusion could possibly be harming Abigor. Because Abigor could possibly have been the victim of impersonation, Abigor has, my opinion, a legal right to see the impeaching information, so he can take other action based on it, to protect himself and to repair possible harm. You, as a volunteer, have no primary obligation to do anything, and you just resigned the tool, so you couldn't recover that information if you wanted to, without creating problems (unless you kept the information). What's done is done, but your explanation is not an explanation. Barras claimed that local law might prohibit him from disclosing the information. That's a preposterous argument, under the conditions that existed, that a user was impeached by information, and the user requests and permits release of the information. If Abigor was impersonated, the impersonator has no right to protection, that's very clear. By not disclosing the information, a disclosure that policy clearly permits, and no law prohibits, a possible impersonator -- a lawbreaker -- is being protected. If Abigor was the vandal, on the other hand, disclosing the information to him does no harm. I'd hoped you would just provide it to him, closing this affair. --Abd 16:33, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Concerns about usurpation

Hi df! Regarding the usurpation of my username, I'm not confident that I'll be able to usurp w:en:User:Striker. He had made about 70 edits and is an occasional editor, although he had made less than 10 edits per year since 2009 according to this page. I don't think he is willing to renounce his username. As this hasn't been enough, w:he:User:Striker is a similar case. The usurpation should be fine for the other projects, however. Considering the situation, I'm starting to think that the best solucion is renaming my account to put a numerical suffix to my username (e.g. Striker-10). That would simplify and definitely resolve the problem. Nevertheless I don't wish to do that if there were the possibility of taking the Striker name. What should one do now? Striker talk 02:59, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

I made a request there right now. Let's see what response will come. I don't know if it ever has a chance of being accepted. If it's declined, all our effort on this matter has been in vain. Striker talk 05:01, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
Global rename is not possible at this time. We shall go wiki-by-wiki changing usernames and that would be a pain (I've performed a couple of those in the past). We will see how it goes. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 10:49, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
After months they seem to not have even read the request I made here. I wonder if you could perform the renaming. Striker talk 18:18, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
I've added a comment there. If there are no replies then we can consider asking us to perform the rename there. Notwithstanding the local bureaucrat is active there and therefore we must ask him/her first. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 19:51, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
The user rename on there was done. Originally the request was raised by a user who was not logged on (IP user request). So the request was not done until a logged on user was endosed for this request (it can be done by registering using a new username and do the Special:RenameUser twice between three usernames) or confirmed by stewards. Shinjiman 02:06, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the response and for performing the usurpation. Regards, -- Dferg ☎ talk 07:57, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

De-Sysop

Saludos, --Roy 15:30, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Block exemption

Hola, soy Joan301009 y firmo con --  TheMrJohannesburg · Parlem-ne! ;)/Let's talk!

;)/Let's talk! ;) 08:55, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Temp RfA

Hey Dferg!

I don't know if you noticed, but Multichill asked for temporary adminship until the end of the Foundraiser (15 October, see this). You closed the request with an expiry date of 26 August. I think it wouldn't hurt to let the adminbit stay until the time request. That is what we usually do in such cases. Best, -Barras 11:21, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

{{talkback|Multichill|Temporary administrator access}}. Multichill 11:38, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
Hello Barras. I certainly have no objections to the requested time but stablished one month as per this. Given that you agree with the extension and me too I've extended his adminship to the requested time. -- Dferg ☎ talk 07:22, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Great. I know about this rule, but usually give them the time they need it, like here until 15th October. It usually doesn't hurt. ;-) -Barras 18:01, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
