Can Meta 'crats still lock accounts do you know? I know there was a vote against but did anything happen? (should be obvious why I'm asking :)). Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:19, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Don't think they can any longer.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:21, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
B*gg*r :) The way my mind is going I think we are going to look into this a bit more based on the "JackPotte" experience. As I'm sure you've seen I've nudged a steward or two. Let's see if they understand! --Herby talk thyme 16:23, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Just to confirm, they definitely can't. Majorly talk 16:25, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Stewards definitely can't understand the problem with JackPotte? lol  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:35, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Lol... in response to Herby's question, Meta bcrats cannot lock accounts. As for whether stewards understand, that is none of my business :) Majorly talk 16:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject on open proxies/verified users

Good day Mike.lifeguard, I was wondering if you could add me to the list, as you're a verified admin. Currently I'm a verified editor on en.wiki. Thanks for your time! Regards, --Kanonkas 19:51, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, no can do. IIRC, that group self-regulates; you should ask someone on the list.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:48, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for adding me to the list. Regards, --Kanonkas 21:08, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Fancy trying your fr out :)

Hi Mike - I read fr ok (ish) but I have an fr link placer on my en wp talk page here. I guess it really needs a good "encyclopaedias do not need external links & placing them across wikis is spamming" message. If not then I'll try someone on Commons maybe? Cheers --Herby talk thyme 09:28, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Left a message for them on your talk. Probably not great French, but should make enough sense.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 12:43, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Txs - appreciated (& I could read it!). --Herby talk thyme 13:00, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

amphoreus.org

Hello Mike, I would like to ask You (and Herby, I guess he sees that) what You think about

?

Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 19:41, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

See User:COIBot/XWiki/basketter1991.co.cc. At present I am not happy, but unsure what (if anything) should be done. Still looking...  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:50, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

User:COIBot/XWiki/manteka.com

Buenas tardes:

¿Hay algun problema con enseñar imagenes y animaciones de asteoides? No entiendo lo sucedido. Si he cometido algun error pido disculpas.

Jose Manteca Obsevatorio de Begues

I'm afraid I cannot understand you, but I have linked the bot-generated report upon which I was acting. If you feel the links should have remained, you may undo my edits. However, linking a Spanish website outside the Spanish-language wikis is normally questionable - please be sure doing so is appropriate in each case.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

The intention was to show to the readers images and animations of asteroids (NEA). It is beyond all doubt the images are universal and do not need translation. I am very upset about this affair.--81.39.177.15 17:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

We have plenty of asteroids (freely licensed too!) without linking so excessively.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 17:52, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

sbl-log-instructions

Hi!
I don't think, that it is a good idea to insert the instructions for the new syntax in old logs for it is somehow irritating. Actually the old logs don't need any further instructions, because nobody will modify those logs, or do I miss something? -- seth 08:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

True, they're really needed only on the current one. But for consistency's sake, I added them everywhere. Feel free to undo the addition to non-current logs if you like.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 14:06, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
ok, then i'll undo the additions. -- seth 18:28, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Are you kidding me?

Link. Let me guess, you're trying to make Wikimedians look even more hypocritical and sinister than they actually are? -- Thekohser 20:37, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Conflict of interest is a serious concern on English Wikipedia; please raise such issues where they can be dealt with (ie not on m:Talk:Spam blacklist). That page is a workplace, and such disruption is highly unwelcome.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 20:48, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Global Rollback

Hi Mike,

I wonder If I could be able to post a request for Global Rollback. I ask you this cause I don't know if I have all the qualities to have such feature. I do loads of reverts on the es-wiki and I have the rollback flag on the en-wiki. By using this feature I could be able to do more maintenace. I only ask for an opinion. Thank you. --Dferg (talk) 18:19, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

I would say "no" at this point, however your reverts look good. We want to see lots of reverts across many wikis; ideally this would be coordinated through SWMT. I would say that getting more involved, and proving that you can do the work and need the tool should come before requesting it, as with any other tool.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 18:26, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. I'll get more involved on stop cross-wiki vandalism. Thank you. --Dferg (talk) 19:18, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

RE:Please stop being disruptive

There was no agreement to remove the image either. XxJoshuaxX 01:30, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

That's irrelevant to your disruption and you know it. Stop.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 01:32, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
How am I being disruptive? The users removing the image were the ones basically asking for an edit war. XxJoshuaxX 01:32, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I'm not being disruptive in any way. It's not my fault that the people removing the image can't respect the rules about discussing changes. XxJoshuaxX 01:35, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

IBNKhaldoun

Hi The URL : www.exhauss-ibnkhaldoun.com.tn, belong to a serious academic web site. It not can be confused like a spam.

I was acting on User:COIBot/XWiki/exhauss-ibnkhaldoun.com.tn; whether it is academic or not is fairly immaterial since the behaviour of linking cross-wiki is inappropriate. If you like, open a request for removal at Talk:Spam blacklist.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 22:01, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Jon Awbrey @ sr.wp

Hi Mike! I appreciate the heads-up. I've contacted the user in question earlier and noted how that type of userpage content falls somewhat out of line with local policies and good practice, so I'm hoping that will be the end of it. Will keep an eye out though, just to be sure :) Cheers --Kale 00:22, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with this.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 00:24, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mike, thank you for heading up. Just for your information.

  • I deleted yesterday q:user:Jon Awbrey but the user was still allowed to edit.
  • He was back and created another account q:user:JonAwbrey and their pages and the deleted user pages. There was no other good editing. I deleted those four pages and permnentently blocked two accounts as a text spammer.

--Aphaia 06:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

It is often difficult to track such things across many wikis, so thanks a lot for that information.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 15:43, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Ibn khaldoun, www.exhauss-ibnkhaldoun.com.tn

Mister Mike, my greetings Excuse my approximate English I have added the URL www.exhauss-ibnkhaldoun.com.tn to the web links in many pages dedicated to Ibn khaldun in Wikipedia because I liked this web site that I consider one of the best academic web sites. I am not expert in Wikipedia, my addition have been estimated like a spam. Please remove this URL from the blacklist. best regards

I'm afraid pushing links in this manner is considered inappropriate, and blacklisting is used to counter such behaviour. We de-blacklist sites when trusted, high-volume editors request the use of blacklisted links because of their value in support of our projects. If such a situation arises, I'm sure the request will be carefully considered and this domain may well be removed.  — Mike.lifeguard | talk 01:57, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
