Blacklist

Hi, why do you add URLs to your own section of the blacklist? Do we still use sections? If so, I guess I shouldn't simply add everything to the bottom of the list. --Erwin(85) 20:11, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

I forget... At the time, I think we weren't using sections really, but I did it anyways, to be on the safe side. By now, I'd be surprised if all the regexes between the start and end of "my section" were really added by me. I should probably just get rid of it - there's no point to it that I can think of as all the metadata is in the log... So there you have it :)  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:17, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Logging tool

Hi, I'm thinking about making the logging easier with some javascript. I'm thinking of either including the latest oldid of Spam blacklist in bot reports if you made the last edit yourself. (So after adding a URL from a report you reload the report and simply copy/paste the logging snippet.) Another option would be to make the link from Spam blacklist include the current oldid and automatically append that to the log. Any thoughts/suggestions? --Erwin(85) 18:46, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Probably something like commons:MediaWiki:Gadget-DelReqHandler.js would be ideal. I made a flowchart which encompasses the usual stuff we do with additions/removals and declining requests. Probably the Commons script will be a very good framework for handling requests on Talk:Spam blacklist especially. Looking forward to seeing where this takes us.
I'm also going to see about using inputbox to make adding to the spam blacklist easier. Wish me luck :D  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 19:55, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, well inputbox is crap. But perhaps I can bribe someone into making LogEntry better.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 21:00, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Sounds good. I'm not sure about the actual process though. Logging can be done with AJAX, but I think the spam blacklist should only show the intended differences, similar to your removespam.js. Every edit should need confirmation. In any case I really need to have a script that closes reports for me. I seem to forget that about half the times. --Erwin(85) 11:18, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

I copied this section to Talk:Spam_blacklist#Logging_tool. I also notified Dschwen as he was interested in it some time ago, see User_talk:Herbythyme#Spam_blacklist_logging_helper. --Erwin(85) 15:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

#wikimedia-admin

Hi Mike,

I was reading your userpage... I have seen you promote that channel.. How do you do that? And can i help?

cheers, Sterkebaktalk 08:05, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Just join the channel. It is useful for help with the admin tools and cross-wiki coordination, especially fighting vandalism/spam.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:09, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
I am always in that channel when i am online. You have any tips or tools for cross wiki vandalism? Sterkebaktalk 19:28, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Depends what sort of tools you're looking for. You might be interested in my SWMT script. I'm still looking for feedback - what should be added/removed, etc. Perhaps I'll grab you in IRC later & ask about this further.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 21:18, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Hmm i am reading about the cross wiki vandalism.. Maybe i can try te help against it. If i need any help i can come to you? Cheers, Sterkebaktalk 14:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Absolutely.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 15:14, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

remote.js

Is this script properly installed or I need to install this also?:

function importAnyScript(lang,family,script) {

       document.write('<script type="text/javascript" src="' + 'http://'
               + lang + '.'
               + family + '.org/w/index.php?title='
               + script + '&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript"></script>');

}

Thank you. Dferg (T-ES) 09:23, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

No, you need the whole bit. You can use something like importScriptURI('http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Mike.lifeguard/remote.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript'); instead - it is a single line. That's all you need. As well, you may wish to take a peek at User:Pathoschild/Scripts/SynchCrosswiki.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:08, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Usernameblacklist vs. Titleblacklist.

enwiktionary

Hi,

Does your edit summary at [[wikt:MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist?diff=prev&oldid=5440103]] mean that if (say) User:.*x.* is on the Titleblacklist, then it will be impossible to create an account with an x in its username?

Thanks,
RuakhTALK 15:22, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes. There is one regex that didn't make sense to me, so I reverted myself. I will figure out who added it and contact them direct;y to resolve that.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:06, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, misread your question a bit. To block usernames, use the <newaccountonly> option with the entry (the User: prefix isn't required, as that's not part of the username). See mw:Extension:Title blacklist for full documentation.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 16:09, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, fixed.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 18:23, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
But your addition to [[wikt:MediaWiki:Titleblacklist]] doesn't match what you removed from [[wikt:MediaWiki:Usernameblacklist]]. We do allow spaces, and we do allow certain punctuation. Why would you try to rewrite the regex, instead of just copying it? And anyway, is there some reason that this conversion is so urgent? Why not just leave us a note at [[wikt:Wiktionary:Grease pit]] and let us handle it? —RuakhTALK 20:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, I was trying to fix a regex which was broken, as I previously stated. I've now changed it to the closest valid regex possible.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:11, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure where you previously stated that, so I'm sorry if I'm making you repeat yourself, but — what was broken about it? How could you tell? Thanks, —RuakhTALK 02:08, 30 October 2008 (UTC)   Never mind, I see that all you changed was unblock the hash sign #, which is auto-blocked by the software anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter. —RuakhTALK 02:17, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

viwikipedia

Hi, I saw you make changes in vi.wiki. Could you show us the reason for doing the merge thing? Does it have consensus on Meta-Wiki or is there any changes in MediaWiki software? Vinhtantran 01:03, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

The old username blacklist will be retired shortly, and all entries required migration. Having a single user do so was far more efficient than waiting for local communities; I hope that meets with your approval.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:23, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

parkguell.net84.net not a bad website

parkguell.net84.net, Is a good web of Park Güell. I can understand to don’t put this web in all the wikis that I’ve put. I don’t think that are not useful, but I can understand that if it’s not the language, ok. But in the English Wikipedia, and in the Spanish wiki, they are useful. So I if you put the link (or don’t block me to do) in this two Wikipedia’s, I, as Malet user, won’t make spam again. If you to know if you can trust me, see my user page in Catalan wiki (user malet).--[Malet] 17:47, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Please see User:COIBot/XWiki/parkguell.net84.net#Discussion. You should instead request whitelisting for specific uses on relevant wikis.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 18:22, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
