Opt-in instead of opt-out
editHi Nemo. It is a very bad idea to handle this with an opt-out. You can not simply automatically deactivate core functions or limit them to admins. I advice you to make an opt-in out of this. And you should be patient (there is no need to deactive the local upload functions until the end of the month). The local communities should be able to decide as a whole community in a democratic way (a community poll or something like this). But this needs time. Chaddy (talk) 15:59, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- It already is opt-in. A wiki which needs more time to decide will not ask to join this round. I see bar.wiki was already removed, let us know if/when you reach a decision. --Nemo 16:21, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, if I wrote bullshit - but according to this, it seemed to be opt-out... Chaddy (talk) 17:26, 19 September 2014 (UTC)
- Opt-in vs. opt-out is often an unclear terminology. This is happening only on wikis showing signs of being happy with it, period. So far, it worked. :-) --Nemo 09:08, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Removal of aswiki
editDue to some oversights and relative lack of contributors, there has been some lag in maintaining the images and related data. In spite of that, we, the admins, don't want to limit the local uploads only to us. There is a nice upload wizard in place with all the license templates. In future We'll try to clean up the repository effectively. So 'aswiki' has been removed from the list. Thank you. Gitartha.bordoloi (talk) 13:36, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
w:fy
editHi Nemo, I've removed fywiki from your list, because fywiki is quite attached to the possibility of uploading files locally, as this creates the possibility to upload files that can be used according to Dutch copyright laws, even if they do not comply with Commons permission standards. Above that, there seems to be no good reason why just admins should be able to upload files locally. By the way, next time you may want to offer this with an opt-in instead of opt-out (If you disagree with the proposal, just remove this wiki from the list clearly is opt-out). Opt-out is sooo 2013... Regards, Wutsje (talk) 23:32, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
- fy.wiki was not included, see also [1]. On opt*, see above. --Nemo 17:35, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- And you couldn't bother to notify fy:wiki that you made a mistake?
- Re opt-in/opt-out: it seems to me the only reason you think opt-in vs. opt-out is often an unclear terminology is that you make it unclear to yourself. Announcing that this and that will happen unless this or that is done before then or then, then we're definitely talking opt-out: something has to be done to avoid something. Cf wikt:opt-out. As an "editing restricted" wiki, why not? @Awight (WMF), Khorn (WMF), Pcoombe, Ppena, and Zexley: and @MeganHernandez (WMF) and Jalexander-WMF:. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:26, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
Removal of oc:wikipedia
editHello,
We would like now to bypass the mandatory upload to commons. We are stuck by some "copyright limitations" that do not apply to en:wikipedia, and that are not applicable, either, in the countries where Occitan is used.
For a specific example, we are unable to re-use the African Union symbols that are visible, for instance, in the English wikipedia, as they are local files not available in Commons.
I'm not sure you'll be able to perform the operation, but I'm pretty sure you will redirect this to the proper person. Isn't it?
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
--Jfblanc (talk) 18:54, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Jfblanc. According to the available information, oc.wiki has no EDP. If you want to upload unfree files, the community needs to approve such a policy for them. I'd like to help you get Special:Upload enabled, but you wouldn't be able to upload any of those files anyway without this step. Plese gain consensus for an EDP locally, or correct the page EDP here on Meta if there is already one such policy. --Nemo 10:53, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Nemo, you're right we have no such page, so as a sysop I will consult the community and set up such a page. Of course I'll keep you updated. Regards, --Jfblanc (talk) 17:00, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Nemo, done and EDP page updated. Please could you? Thanks in advance. Regards. --Jfblanc (talk) 14:11, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Opt-out te:wikiquote
editDear Nemo, We would like now to bypass the mandatory upload to commons in Telugu(te) wikiquote. In recent months community is actively working on this project and shown interest in having local uploads. --వైజాసత్య (talk) 05:56, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hi వైజాసత్య, I'm happy that te.quote is getting more active, I can help you request the change. Where did you discuss it? Is q:te:Wikiquote చర్చ:సముదాయ పందిరి still the main community discussion place?
- There is a problem though: I can't change how MediaWiki works, and you have no q:te:MediaWiki:Licenses page. You need to create local copyright tags templates and to add them to that page, or Special:Upload won't work anyway. I see you have no local administrators, so you'll first need to discuss what copyright tags to allow, then create them locally, then ask a global sysop or steward to add them to the page. When this is done, we can ask to enable Special:Upload. --Nemo 10:49, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
