Do you mind running the synchbot for me again?

The following discussion is marked as answered. If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hey Pathoschild. You ran your synchbot for me a couple of days ago, but as it turns out, contrary to what I had believed, not all of my accounts were created. If possible, do you mind running the script for me once more? I've used Krinkle's GlobalSUL tool to create the accounts I didn't know I hadn't created and all accounts should exist at this time. If you could re-run the script, I'd greatly appreciate it. TCN7JM 01:59, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Sure; just add a new request to do so. —Pathoschild 02:08, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

What are your edits on nl.wikivoyage?

The following discussion is marked as answered (edits are part of the Synchbot service). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Dear Pathoschild, please explain your obscure contributions to the Dutch Wikivoyage. There is no problem if you do this in English, but the present pages are totally ununderstandable and need clarification. Thank you, DrMennoWolters (talk) 13:52, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Vriendelijke groet, Mathonius (talk) 13:59, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Hi Menno. I edit the Dutch Wikivoyage as part of the Synchbot service, which edits user pages for global users who have an account on that wiki (and on other wikis). For example, a user can ask to update their user page on all wikis (including the Dutch Wikivoyage) so they don't need to do it manually. This service does not affect any other pages. Does this answer your question? —Pathoschild 15:26, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Request for deletions on kw.wikipedia

The following discussion is marked as answered (can request deletions on Steward requests/Miscellaneous). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hey, I see you often perform deletions at kw.wikipedia. I was wondering if you could go through these 20 files I have nominated for deletion as they are already at Wikimedia Commons. They are in this category. Thanks very much. Delsion23 (talk) 20:28, 17 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello Del♉sion23. Please request the deletions on Steward requests/Miscellaneous, and we'll look into it shortly. —Pathoschild 15:31, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

synchbot request

The following discussion is marked as answered (see Synchbot service). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hi Pathoschild!

I would like to ask you to make your synchbot put a copy of w:de:User:JøMa/vector.css on every Wikimedia project (including all wikivoyages, wiktionaries, wikibooks, chapters, metas and so on). There may be several of them already; then I would ask you to let your bot overwrite them.

Could you do me that favour please? Thank you very much in advance JøMa (talk) 17:06, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi again! As you might have noticed, I found the correct place for my requests: User:Pathoschild/Scripts/Synchbot#JøMa and User:Pathoschild/Scripts/Synchbot#JøMa 2.
I'm not quite sure which obstacles there are – did I understand right that there's a server migration we are waiting for? Best wishes from Germany —[ˈjøːˌmaˑ] 11:21, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Hi JøMa. Sorry for the delay; I'll be clearing the request queue this week. —Pathoschild 05:50, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh, that's fine. Thank you! Am I right that a bot service for mass-changes of preferences is no longer active? :/ —[ˈjøːˌmaˑ] 13:51, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
Yep, Quentinv57's preferences bot was discontinued due to password security concerns. It might be replaced later with a script using the OAuth feature Wikimedia recently implemented. —Pathoschild 16:45, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Are you migrating to Tools

The following discussion is marked as answered (already migrated). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Gday Pathoschild. I am presuming that you are watching the lights dimming on Toolserver, though your tools are still there. Are you planning on moving and getting steward tools and setting them up in a shared space? Some of the CentralAuth links presumably in your git script are what keep reminding me. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 15:06, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Billinghurst. All my tools (except stewardry) are already migrated and running on Tools Labs; I'll just waiting for ticket #55929 to be resolved before redirecting. —Pathoschild 21:36, 22 December 2013 (UTC)
Oh. So as CentralAuth tool still points to https://toolserver.org/~pathoschild/stalktoy I am presuming that they are migrated though not operational, well not that I could fine by link following. Thanks for the reply and I will sit patiently content to know that something will be happening.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:20, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Pathos, bugzilla:58890 is supposed to be a usable workaround to get toolserver-level quality of crosswiki querying. Have you tried it, doesn't it work? --Nemo 19:16, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Hi Nemo. Thanks for the suggestion, but my tools already access the databases by shard. The problem is query latency rather than connection latency. —Pathoschild 22:13, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Too bad. Originally that feature was excluded from Labs so it used to be even worse. :( Glad you already managed to keep that feature in the rewrite/port too. --Nemo 09:35, 24 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello Pathoschild, I see you migrated all of your tools to labs, including the AccountEligibility one. In light of the upcoming steward elections, could you possibly set it up for that? We're using the same requirements as last year :) Kind regards and happy holidays, Snowolf How can I help? 01:27, 30 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Snowolf. I added it to both, though you should still use the Toolserver version until Labs issue #55929 is resolved. :) —Pathoschild 06:38, 03 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you so much :) Snowolf How can I help? 08:52, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
A minor issue: The candidate requirements setting gives the info that candidates should identify prior to 08 February 2013, but that should be 2014 obviously ;) --MF-W 16:55, 3 January 2014 (UTC)

stewardry tool

The following discussion is marked as answered (fetched data manually). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hello, Pathoschild!

I tried your tool today but it seems not working at Toolserver at the moment: I want to review inactive bots on ru.wikipedia, check all required fields on your tool's page but page is loading-loading-loading for ages :( I also found your Labs tool but it gives 404 error. Is it a temporary mistake? Thanks rubin16 (talk) 10:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi Robin. The Toolserver isn't very reliable lately since they're deprecating it. Stewardry is the last tool not migrated to Tools Labs yet, though it will be soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. —Pathoschild 17:47, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Stewardry was migrated shortly after my last comment. The Tool Labs is finally merging their datacenters; I'll redirect the old tool when they're done. —Pathoschild 03:05, 01 March 2014 (UTC)
thanks a lot rubin16 (talk) 09:17, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
sorry, but would you please give me the link to stewardry tool on Labs? It seems that I am not able to find it myself... rubin16 (talk) 10:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
The tool is located at tools.wmflabs.org/meta/stewardry, but the Tool Labs infrastructure isn't ready yet. Since ru-wikipedia is a large wiki, the tool will take some time to analyze the data regardless; I can query the data manually for you if it doesn't work. —Pathoschild 14:58, 01 March 2014 (UTC)
I suppose I would need your help... the tool shows nothing for me, when I choose "bots" group in ru.wiki and I am interested in the list of bots that haven't edited ru.wiki since 1 March 2013. Thanks for your help rubin16 (talk) 12:27, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello Pathoschild-

I wanted to let you know that I have had a book chapter accepted for publication that draws on information from our early 2013 interview. Babel

The following discussion is marked as answered (see Babel translations). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hello Pathoschild! I see that you created this template. It looks like everything is fine with the template. But when {{#babel:uz-N}} is used to display someone's knowledge of Uzbek, the text that appears contains mistakes. Specifically, the word "foydalanuvchi" ("user") appears as "foydalanuchi," which is wrong. Also, a straight apostrophe appears instead of an okina-like symbol. Where and how can I correct this? Nataev (talk) 11:23, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

We are talking about mw:Extension:Babel which is different from a template. I think that you will find that the language components are at translatewiki:Special:Translate/ext-babel. Over at translatewiki there will also be other components translated, or awaiting translating, into Uzbek that would surely could do with review too.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:14, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! I've corrected the mistakes at translatewiki. I've also reviewed the other components there. Nataev (talk) 05:25, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

Stewardry not working for Wikidata

The following discussion is marked as answered (see newer Tool Labs version). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

It looks like Stewardry is not working with Wikidata. When I run it, it gives me,

Could not perform query:
SQL: [56] CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS u_pathoschild /*9f9fd433*/ Params: 0
Exception: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1290 The MySQL server is running with the --read-only option so it cannot execute this statement

It only seems to affect that wiki. It's affects my active sysop tool. Techman224Talk 04:45, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Techman224. This problem doesn't affect Stewardry on Tool Labs, where it's been rewritten and should be ready for use (with a redirect pending bug 55929). Do note that since Wikidata is a larger wiki, the tool may time out before completion; the rewritten version is significantly faster, but not fast enough for large wikis yet. —Pathoschild 05:29, 03 March 2014 (UTC)

The following discussion is marked as answered (links fixed). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hi Pathoschild,
on https://tools.wmflabs.org/meta/crossactivity/ there are still links to the toolserver left, which will be discontinued. At e.g. [1] the first two links in "Related tools:" point to the toolserver versions of the scripts. Please replace them with a appropriate tool labs version. As far as i see there are also some other files where urls need to be replaced. Regards --se4598 (talk) 19:47, 2 April 2014 (UTC) (originally reported on de:user talk:Umherirrender#Tool Crosswikiactivity)

Hello se4598. Thanks for reporting this; I fixed all links to the Toolserver, and removed Luxo's contrib since there's no working version (the Tool Labs derivative fails with a DB error). —Pathoschild 03:30, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Pathoschild-contrib on go slow

The following discussion is marked as answered (slowdown resolved). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Gday bloke. Hope that all is well for you. I was usiong your tools well for a while last night, then about 8 hours ago they just ground to a halt. Other toollabs tools are working fine (from just a few checks) so I was wondering whether you would be able to take a look under the hood. On a side note, did you see that they announced that they have done some work on migrating to new database with different federated (?) tables that really speeds up queries. <shrug whether that is relevant> Thanks for the tools, and your continued support.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:18, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Hi Billinghurst. Sorry for the late response; we have limited connectivity on our honeymoon. The tools are working fine for me now. This may have been caused by some unduly heavy traffic on that day from 360Spider, a Chinese search engine bot. Let me know if you notice any other slowdowns.
I heard about the replicated tables. They don't immediately affect my tools since I already use connection caching for crosswiki queries, but they'll simplify the code (by removing the need for connection caching) and enable lots of interesting scenarios with cross-database queries. :) —Pathoschild 02:28, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
Woohoo! She made an honest man out of you. Congratulations to you both, and if it was a honeymoon, any connectivity while wireless, should have nothing to do with nets. Yes it came back a couple of days later, and that makes sense. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:29, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

de-Wikibooks

The following discussion is marked as answered (resolved). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hi Jesse, last night you tried to create the user site "Good afternoon" as I saw at b:de:Special:AbuseLog/3683 with the summary "global user pages (requested by Good afternoon)". b:de:Special:AbuseFilter/24 prevented to create the site. The filter definition contains the following condition:

! (
    title == user_name
    |
    "sysop" in user_groups
    |
    "bot" in user_groups
    )

My intention using this condition was that your action is done as (global) bot (last case). This condition seems to be insufficient. Can you tell me a condition that allows you to create any user page? -- Thank you! Juetho (talk) 06:11, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello Juetho. The easiest exception is probably user_name == "Pathoschild". —Pathoschild 15:41, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Indeed. But what about the other global bots? I'll add contains_any ( user_name, "Pathoschild" ) etc. You'll be able to recreate the "Good afternoon" user page. -- Juetho (talk) 17:35, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Per bugzilla:20850 you can use something like "global bot" in global_user_groups for other bots, but I don't have AbuseFilter access to try it. My edits aren't flagged as a global bot, though. —Pathoschild 17:46, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
@Juetho: the current solution also allows users to create accounts such as "Pathoschild 2" to edit any user page (because contains_any ( "Pathoschild 2", "Pathoschild" ) is true). Helder 17:54, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
@Helder I'm conscious of this problem and thought this may be neglected.
@Pathoschild Thanks for this hint. I'll mix both ways now - global bot and your name. -- Juetho (talk) 06:33, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Resolved. A useful solution for my problem. -- Juetho (talk) 06:33, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Placement of TemplateScript in sidebar

Heyho. A question. With the recent rollout of global.js, I have found that the sidebar for user scripts can now be well down the list (where silly people like me have too many sidebar additions). Is there a simple means to position the scripts box in relation to the other additions? Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:51, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Billinghurst. TemplateScript adds its boxes to the bottom of the sidebar, so loading it before your other scripts will move it up. If needed I could add an option to control the positioning. —Pathoschild 14:07, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Gday. User:Erwin/stewardlinks.js and your stewardry script both push themselves up the order, which is okay in view, though means in edit mode, that the custom regex is scrolled off the bottom and is less than ideal. So either those other two scripts are less pushy when in edit mode (or I work out how to nullify them in edit mode), or there is a need to make TemplateScript more pushy. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:40, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

There're a lot of requests [1]. Does they still needs to be done?--GZWDer (talk) 05:25, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello GZWDer. The requests removed when that bot was discontinued won't be done now, but anyone is welcome to submit a new request on Synchbot. —Pathoschild 05:53, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

HotCat settings broken in global scripts

The following discussion is marked as answered (JSconfig is a custom Commons script, so global scripts should use the older global settings variables for HotCat). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

I found that when I had active the line

window.JSconfig.keys['HotCatEditBoxWidth'] = 80;

that it basically killed the functionality of my global.js file. So I have removed that component.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:58, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

JSConfig is a custom script in MediaWiki:Common.js, so it will only work on the few wikis that have it and will never work from global.js (which is loaded before MediaWiki:Common.js). This code should work for you instead:
window.hotcat_editbox_width = 80;

Sweet for the fix. It had been intended as an FYI if someone whinges of a break, like doofuses like moi. :-)  — billinghurst sDrewth 04:29, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! I'm migrating a few other users' scripts, so I'll keep an eye out for JSconfig. —Pathoschild 04:31, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Re: Global CSS/JS migration

The following discussion is marked as answered (done). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hello Béria. You have a global.js page which contains your global scripts for all wikis. Since August 19th, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis (see announcement). Since you already load your Meta common.js yourself on many wikis (see example), you may experience script errors or issues like tools being added twice. I can fix that for you by merging your local scripts and styles into your global pages, and deleting the local pages with synchbot. Do you want me to do that? —Pathoschild 18:26, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Regarding your offering to fix my Global.js: PLEASE!!! :D Do fix it, and thank you for offering :D Béria Lima msg 21:40, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Will do. I'll let you know here when it's done. :) —Pathoschild 00:41, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you again Pathoschild :D Béria L. de Rodríguez msg 10:17, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

I did this a couple of weeks ago. You can see the full log on your archive page. :) —Pathoschild 02:38, 02 November 2014 (UTC)

Custom Templatescript script not working

The following discussion is marked as answered (fixed your script settings). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

I tried to make a custom button work on all namespace on User:-revi/common.js (second one), but it looks like it doesn't work. Can you help me fixing this? (Feel free to edit the page if needed.) — revi^ 15:50, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Fixed. You can leave out the forNamespaces option if you want it in all namespaces. —Pathoschild 16:23, 01 October 2014 (UTC)

Ajax sysop doesn't work on deletion form

The following discussion is marked as answered (newer version of Ajax Sysop works better). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

I implemented it on User:-revi/global.js, but does not see something like File:Ajax sysop on deletion form.png on deletion form @ kowiki. Is there any problem on my side, or your code? (As usual, feel free to modify my global.js when needed...) — revi 10:09, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi -revi. This newer version should work better:
mw.loader.load('//tools.wmflabs.org/meta/scripts/pathoschild.ajaxsysop.js');
I can't test most of it since I'm no longer an admin, but the deletion functionality seems to work fine. Let me know if everything works — if so I'll migrate everyone using the old version. —Pathoschild 01:51, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
I checked delete on userpage, (block log shown, subpage shown) Special:Contributions (bot rollback shown). Though I didn't test patrolling things, I think it's ready for migration. — revimsg 06:34, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
I tested patrol thing on Commons, and it looks like new version is working well. — revimsg 17:41, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Request for deletions on om.wikipedia

The following discussion is marked as answered (see Steward requests/Miscellaneous). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hi. It seems there is no admins on om.wikipedia. So Files have been in om:Category:Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion for 2 years or so. Could you have a look? --MGA73 (talk) 18:50, 25 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi MGA73. I can't delete the pages (I can only delete pages for synchbot), but I added a request for you at Steward requests/Miscellaneous#om.wikipedia. —Pathoschild 02:03, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Synchbot edits closed wikis

The following discussion is marked as answered (Synchbot edits closed wikis by design, but they can be excluded by request). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

I realized synchbot edited ten.wikipedia, which is closed. You should skip wikis where wiki is closed, no matter user has local account there or not. — revimsg 06:46, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

Closed wikis can only be edited by stewards, so it is no longer an issue.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:19, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Closed wikis can be edited by anyone with the editinterface permission — currently interface editors, global sysops, new wiki importers, staff, stewards, and sysadmins. Global renamers can also edit pages indirectly through the global rename tool, which moves user pages on closed wikis.
By default Synchbot will update your user pages on all wikis (including closed wikis) where you have an account, because that's usually the least unexpected result of a request. For example, ignoring closed wikis by default would often result in outdated or wrong information (especially if you have statements subject to change like "I'm an admin on X wiki"). Closed wikis can be excluded by request, or I can delete or revert changes manually for you on specific wikis. —Pathoschild 17:43, 02 November 2014 (UTC)
I believe the 'edit' right is required as well, so global sysops cannot edit closed wikis. PiRSquared17 (talk) 20:23, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Hmm, there you go then. k and thx  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:11, 2 November 2014 (UTC)

My Synchbot request

The following discussion is marked as answered (request completed). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hey there I made a request and am totally new to this. Can you check it over and make sure I didn't screw anything up? Thanks! Eurodyne (talk) 05:19, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Eurodyne. Your request looks fine. I assume Meta should be skipped; do you want to skip any other wikis? —Pathoschild 15:02, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Can it be possible to just run the bot on wikis where I am a red link? Eurodyne (talk) 15:14, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Yep. —Pathoschild 15:30, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Sure. I'd really like that. Please don't run the bot where I have content on my userpages. Thanks a bunch! Eurodyne (talk) 15:32, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Is it possible to put my request on hold now? At the moment, I don't want Synchbot to run for me yet. Thanks! Eurodyne (talk) 21:19, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Sure, I put it on hold. —Pathoschild 21:23, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Ready to go now! Eurodyne (talk) 15:30, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
I've been waiting for a while... Would you be able to get to my request today? Thanks, Eurodyne (talk) 17:55, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Yep. I'm going through the list now in chronological order, and you're next up. —Pathoschild 18:53, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Will you be able to get on IRC at this time? Eurodyne (talk) 19:48, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
You can find me in #wikimediaconnect and a few other channels. —Pathoschild 20:03, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Was User:G(x) renamed to User:V(g)?

The following discussion is marked as answered (user was renamed). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

Hi, Pathoschild. Is this an unintentional error or a renaming operation? G (x) -> V(g) [3]? Greetings, Kubura2 (talk) 03:30, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello Kubura2. The user was renamed; see the Synchbot request for more details. :) —Pathoschild 03:46, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Ajouter l'espace de noms Portail sur le Wikipédia kabyle

The following discussion is marked as answered (see Phabricator to add namespaces, and TranslateWiki to translate them). If you have a new comment, add it just below the box.

—Pathoschild 17:55, 07 December 2014 (UTC)
